Sebastian Vettel Pokes Fun at F1 Stewards After Late Imola Penalty Call

Sebastian Vettel has yet again not gotten the start he wants in his new chapter for Formula One. The German had problems even before the race had begun, as his brakes got overheated. The mechanics couldn’t fix them in the time, which resulted in the 33-year-old getting a penalty, which annoyed the four-time champion.

As the race progressed, Vettel faced gearbox issues. The team decided to call him back into the pits and retire from the race. Hence he couldn’t bring any points in his second outing with the Silverstone-based team.

Now as the German waits for the third round of the 2021 championship, Vettel hopes that things will get better. He aims that he can bring the better result to Aston Martin this season.

Sebastian Vettel isn’t too pleased with the stewards with issuing the penalty

The German told Sky Sports Germany as quoted by PlanetF1, he said, “I don’t know why they were so late, it was pretty clear from the start. “I don’t know what the stewards were doing maybe the filter of the coffee-maker was full and they needed to take care of it!”

Vettel further stated, “The guys tried everything they did and they did really well. They were really alert [to react to the pre-race issues]. I think we could have had a better race if the FIA was more alert.”

“I think we broke a rule, I guess, seeing as we got a penalty. But they didn’t bother until way into the race. By that time, the penalty cost a lot more than it would have earlier in the race, so that’s not very professional. But it certainly wasn’t the decider for us today. We had plenty of issues. Not the trouble-free race we were hoping for and a tough day,” He concluded.

The four-time champion is still to make an impact in his new chapter

Vettel would like his new start at Aston Martin to have gotten off to a better start, but it doesn’t seem to be going that way. In the opening race in Bahrain, Vettel had a grid penalty and later a 10-second time penalty after colliding with Ocon. He ended up finishing 15th in the race.

In the second round of the season, Sebastian thought he could do better, but that wasn’t the case. He had brake issues, even before the race had begun, and later had to retire the car due to problems with the gearbox.

Vettel will keep his fingers crossed for the third race of the season when it takes us to Portugal at the end of this month. He will be looking to bring his first points in his new British green overalls.
