Nicola Adams and her girlfriend Ella Baig have opened up about the struggles they faced while having IVF treatment.

The boxer and the model welcomed their first child, Taylor Nate Adams, on July 11, with Nicola remarking she was ‘overwhelmed with love and proud of Ella.’

The proud parents had revealed they were expecting a bundle of joy in February after ‘what feels like a lifetime’ of IVF.

Ahead of the launch of documentary Nicola Adams: IVF and Me, the 39-year-old and her partner appeared on This Morning, where they spoke to hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about conceiving Taylor.

Ella, who carried their son, said she fell pregnant on their third attempt of IVF after suffering a miscarriage.

She told the presenters that for the first two cycles she was having ‘medicated IVF’ but after seeking advice from another doctor was recommended against that treatment due to an ‘underlying health condition.’

‘They were lots of things that went wrong that shouldn’t have,’ Ella explained, adding that she wanted to feature in the documentary to raise awareness of IVF.

Nicola also admitted that ‘a lot had changed’ since welcoming Taylor, joking that ‘everything revolved around him now.’

Laughing, the Strictly star confessed: ‘It’s his time frame, whatever he wants.’

The Olympic athlete also said it was ‘an amazing moment’ when they found out they were going to expand their family.

She said that she was so stunned she made Ella take a pregnancy test multiple times to prove that it was happening.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
