BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty jokingly shared her frustration over ‘aloof’ Larry the cat as she reported from Downing Street.

The broadcaster was giving updates from No 10 in the aftermath of Liz Truss’ resignation on the current affairs programme on Friday.

As she spoke to co-host Charlie Stayt from Westminster, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant revealed she had got a rather frosty reaction from the prime minster’s feline.

Looking a tad dismayed, she said: ‘We saw Larry the cat here and one of the things we’ve noticed is that he’s quite aloof. He doesn’t really care for strangers.

‘I think he’s been so used to people coming in and out [of Downing Street] so I have extra admiration for you, Charlie, because you actually managed to get a little stroke with him. He’s completely ignored all of us here.’

Charlie, who was based in the Beeb’s studio, said: ‘Yes, when I was down there – that was the time of Boris Johnson’s resignation, of course – there was some dismay amongst the rival teams there from various networks because he came walking over and, of course, came straight to the BBC Breakfast team.

‘He walked away from everybody else and came straight over. We took it as a sign.’

Mike Bushell was also with Charlie and took a moment to gently rib Naga over her outfit choice.

As the journalist was wearing a bright pink coat and scard, Mike said: ‘I like Naga’s outfit but the pink is quite loud isn’t it? It’s quite bright, bold. Maybe it’s too much for Larry?’

It’s not the first time Larry has hit the headlines this week after being captured yawning just a few hours before Truss handed in her resignation, who made history as being the UK’s shortest serving leader.

Larry has in fact been based at Number 10 longer than Truss, and fellow Tory PMs  David Cameron, Theresa MayBoris Johnson.

And the Tweet, alongside a photo of Larry with a lectern outside of Number 10 has had more than 360k likes at the time of writing.

BBC Breakfast continues on Monday at 6am on BBC One.
