Here’s everything we know so far… (Picture: ITV)

The final of The Masked Dancer 2022 is upon us, with finalists Onomatopoeia, Pearly King, and Scissors all in with a chance of being crowned champion on the ITV show.

Viewers have been playing detectives for weeks now, hoping to correctly guess who is behind the costumes, just like the judges, Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Peter Crouch, and Oti Mabuse.

We’ve seen the likes of Kimberley Walsh, Gareth Malone, and Stacey Dooley unmasked over recent weeks, with plenty of reveals leaving both the panel and audiences at home stunned.

Alas, with the excitement of the final also comes the sadness of the series coming to an end, so there’ll be plenty of people clinging onto the hope that the show will return.

Let’s take a dive into all we know so far about a potential next series of The Masked Dancer…

While another series is yet to be confirmed, all hope is not lost.

In fact, it was uncertain whether The Masked Dancer would even get a second series after first airing in 2021, as Katie Radcliffe, head of entertainment at ITV, stated at the time that the show ‘may not return for a second series’ and that the broadcaster were considering axing a number of shows.

However, in December 2021, it was confirmed that the show would return for a second series.

Filming for series 2 then took place at ITV Studios in May this year and it was announced in August that the new series would premiere on September 3.

So, as we await official comment on the fate of The Masked Dancer, it seems there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic, especially as the series has been successful.

ITV could make an announcement, one way or another, towards the end of this year.

Who is in the 2022 final?

But before we get ahead of ourselves and start worrying about a new series not happening, we’ve got the small matter of the 2022 final to contend with!

Scissors, Pearly King, and Onomatopoeia have seriously impressed us with their performances over the weeks, but only one can be unmasked as the winner.

Twitter is alight with theories, as the clue packages have had us all scratching our heads and doing lots of Googling this series.

What do you reckon, is Bruno Toniolo behind Pearly King? (Picture: Vincent Dolman/ITV/REX/Shutterstock)

Names including Maddie Ziegler, Heather Morris, Sheridan Smith, and Heidi Range have been thrown into the mix for Scissors.

Whoever they are, the celeb is a real mover, as they’ve astounded us with their elegance.

With clues including Scissors being someone from an Emmy-winning TV show, references to reality TV shows like The X Factor, and a possible link to the LGBTQ+ community, who do you think it could be?

As for Pearly King, this guy had everyone perplexed for a while, although EastEnders actor Danny Dyer was a strong contender.

Now, many are certain it’s former Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli and, well, he definitely has the dance expertise!

As for Onomatopoeia, they’re probably the character who has kept the judges on their toes the most, with guesses ranging from Chris Eubank to David Walliams.

Onomatopoeia is said to be someone who has travelled the world, has an interest in sports, and is known for ‘bringing the noise,’ so we can’t wait to see who is underneath when the mask finally comes off!

Tune into The Masked Dancer final on ITV tonight at 6:30pm.
