Trainspotting enthusiast Francis Bourgeois has opened up on how much the hobby actually means to him.

The TikTok star went viral for his sweet videos tracking trains, and his iconic go-pro look, and he’s now even landed his own five-part digital series with Channel 4, where he’s taking celebs like Eurovision star Sam Ryder and Love Island’s Chloe Burrows on his trainspotting adventures.

Speaking about his passion to This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Francis explained: ‘Sometimes it brings tears to my eyes because it is such an emotional stimulation.

‘For people looking from the outside, they’re like “Why is this guy going completely crazy about trains,” but actually, if you think about someone individually in a football stadium, if they were going crazy, people would be like “What are they doing?” but when there are thousands of people, it makes it normal.’

Francis also spoke about regretting selling his first trainset as a child.

‘I realise selling my first model locomotive, it was a sad moment, and I’m now building up my model railway again,’ he shared.

When Phil asked if he wished he hadn’t sold it, Francis heartbreakingly replied: ‘Yeah’.

The 22-year-old continued: ‘Honestly, because I lined up all of the locomotives, all of the little people, the little houses, and it was like a real goodbye moment.’

‘It’s like the end of Toy Story!’ Holly quippied.

Francis added: ‘I know that they’re out there somewhere, so I’m thinking it would be an amazing mission to try and get them back.’

With an incredible 2.6 million followers on TikTok, Bourgeois (real name Luke Nicholson) was studying engineering at the University of Nottingham back in 2020 when his train videos took off and saw him amass a loyal following online.

His totally wholesome videos provided a much needed pick up during a particularly miserable time, and people have held onto the joy his videos bring.

So popular are his videos, that earlier this year Bourgeois teamed up with The Jonas Brother singer Joe Jonas and took him trainspotting in the English countryside, while he’s also appeared in an advert for The North Face and Gucci, where he played the role of train conductor.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.

Trainspotting with Francis Bourgeois is available to watch on Channel 4’s YouTube channel from October 19.
