The Crown has been filming Princess Diana’s car being chased by paparazzi in Paris, France, for season 6, new photos show.

Although season 5 of the Netflix drama is set for release on November 9 this year, the cast and crew are already working on the next chapter, which will portray the events running up to the late royal’s death in a car crash, with Elizabeth Debicki playing Lady Spencer.

Princess Diana died in August 1997 in hospital after being injured in the fatal accident in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris. She was 36.

Her partner, Dodi Fayed, and the driver of the Mercedes-Benz W140, Henri Paul, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A Netflix spokesperson has previously said the exact moment of the crash impact will not be shown, and new pictures show her car being chased by paparazzi in the final moments before the fatal tragedy.

The new pictures show actors as paparazzi on foot, motorcycles and in other cars chasing the black Mercedes in which Princess Diana and Fayed were being driven.

It is unclear whether Debicki or a body double are playing Princess Diana in the shot taken.

The upcoming series will see Khalid Abdalla take on the role of Dodi Al Fayed.

Previous pictures similarly showed the car chase, but now Debicki can be seen in the back of the car while Abdalla sits in the passenger seat as the Mercedes drives through Paris.

The car is surrounded by paparazzi in various shots, as cameramen seek to capture images of those inside the car.

The Crown has been subjected to monumental backlash in recent weeks, with the likes of Dame Judi Dench slamming the ‘crude sensationalism’ before the drama added a disclaimer to a trailer stressing that it’s a ‘fictional dramatisation’ but inspired by true events.

Over the decision to include scenes in Paris, one insider previously shared that it feels ‘very uncomfortable’.

‘Finally, some of the crew members are pushing back on the ideas being tabled,’ they told The Sun.

They added that some of the events covered in the anticipated final season are still ‘so fresh and upsetting’ that it ‘feels as though a line is being crossed’.

‘Some production staff are now starting to speak up about their feelings,’ the source claimed.

Debicki, who succeeded Emma Corrin as Princess Diana, was recently asked about the concerns over the sensitivity with which Diana’s death would be portrayed.

‘Well, I don’t really know about those concerns,’ she told Entertainment Weekly, before detailing the approach of The Crown creator Peter Morgan further.

‘I’ll say that Peter and the entire crew of this job do their utmost to really handle everything with such sensitivity and truth and complexity, as do actors,’ she said.

‘The amount of research and care and conversations and dialogue that happen over, from a viewer’s perspective, something probably that you would never ever notice is just immense.’

The Crown season 5 arrives on Wednesday November 9 on Netflix.
