Matt Hancock sparks backlash for ‘I’m A Celebrity stint’ amid cost of living crisis: ‘Taking the absolute p**s’-Stella Akinwumi-Entertainment – Metro

Matt Hancock’s rumoured appearance on this year’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! has sparked outrage due to the current cost of living crisis.
It was reported on Tuesday morning that the former Health Secretary will be joining the annual survival series as a latecomer alongside comedian Seann Walsh.
Mr Hancock was suspended from the Conservative Party following the rumoured confirmation.
‘Matt is a sensational signing for the show as producers love a star with a story to tell – and they always hope they’ll spill the beans round the campfire,’ a TV insider shared.
They added to The Sun: ‘There’s been a question mark over who the twelfth campmate would be, partly because negotiations over Matt going in were so top secret. It seems Matt was a last-minute signing.’
The rumoured casting ignited uproar on social media, as people called out the politician for ‘abandoning his constituents in a cost of living crisis.’
One person wrote: ‘Very clever of the Tories to get Matt Hancock eating kangaroo testicles so we don’t talk about the broken asylum system, the impending recession, the crisis engulfing the NHS, the cost of living crisis, growing inequality and the crumbling public sector more generally.’
‘Tories: We’re taking the cost-of-living crisis seriously. Also Tories: The guy we put in charge of the pandemic is going on #ImACeleb,’ another added.
A third person tweeted: ‘As someone born and raised in West Suffolk, and with family there, I’m absolutely outraged that Matt Hancock is abandoning his constituents to go on I’m A Celeb – particularly as many face a cost of living crisis.

An ally of Mr Hancock said the Conservative MP would use the reality TV show to promote his campaign on dyslexia.
If confirmed, Mr Hancock would join a list of MPs who have appeared on I’m A Celebrity.
Former culture secretary Nadine Dorries featured in the 2012 series but was the first star eliminated.
While, Conservative Party politician and father of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Stanley starred in the 2017 series – which was won by Made In Chelsea’s Georgia Toffolo.

This year already sounds like it’ll be a blinder, with major stars signed up to join camp – including Royal Family member Mike Tindall and iconic 80s pop star Boy George.
It’s back in Australia this year, too – after two series set in a Welsh castle due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! returns on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
