It seems that Matt Hancock has zero qualms about his controversial I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! appearance as he grinned for cameras after touching down in Australia.

The former Health Secretary was reported as the final campmate to have signed up for this year’s series on Tuesday and completes the all-star line-up, which includes the likes of singer Boy George and royal Mike Tindall.

Mr Hancock was pictured arriving at Brisbane Airport and couldn’t have seemed happier about being Down Under, smiling for photographers as he walked through arrivals.

The politician, who was immediately suspended from the Conservative Party for joining the ITV show, opted for casual wear for his journey and dressed in a pair of jeans, a white tee, and a dark blue overshirt. He also tried to keep a low profile in a grey cap.

Asked how he was feeling, Mr Hancock told reporters: ‘I had a very pleasant flight.’

But he kept tight-lipped when asked by The Sun how he felt about entering camp.

‘I am keeping my mouth zipped,’ he told the publication.

Mr Hancock’s I’m A Celebrity signing has sent the nation into uproar, with many furious that a serving MP has decided to abandon his constituents.

Bookies are also predicting that he will break records as the most nominated contestant to take on the infamous Bushtucker trials, as people seek to get revenge for his incompetence during the pandemic.

Mr Hancock, however, has defended his appearance, claiming it will help him communicate with the British people, including those who are politically disengaged.

‘Where better to show the human side of those who make these decisions than with the most watched programme on TV?’ he said.

‘And there are many ways to communicate. It’s one of the many important things I learnt during the pandemic.’

Mr Hancock went on to say that, while many tuned in to watch the daily updates from the government amid the height of the pandemic, others got their news from shows including This Morning, Loose Women, and Gogglebox.

‘It’s as clear as day that politicians like me must go to where the people are — particularly those who are politically disengaged. We must wake up and embrace popular culture,’ he added.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! launches on Sunday at 9pm on ITV.
