Whether it’s humorous songs about aliens, or anecdotes about being arrested or having alopecia that tickle your funny bone, you’ll find something to give you a belly laugh in the current crop of comedy shows.

Simon Munnery – Trials And Tribulations

Simon Munnery will talk about being arrested after pretending to be a German tourist (Picture: Sally Anderson/Alamy)

Twenty years ago, Simon, the maverick godfather of stand-up tangents, was arrested in Edinburgh during one of Arthur Smith’s famous comedy tours. He’d been pretending to be a German tourist harassing Arthur and got a bit tangled up with a policeman.

In this typically eccentric show he talks about what happened that fateful night, as well as the subsequent trial, and then there’s a more recent brush with the law to discuss. It’s a real treat seeing this veteran comedian in action, and you never quite know what’s going to happen next.

If you’re in the Midlands and can’t make it to this show, he’ll be playing the Leicester Comedy Festival in February.

Flo and Joan – Sweet Release

Flo and Joan: the real-life sisters have a reputation for sharp comedy songwriting (Picture: Matt Crockett)

You’ve got a couple more weeks to catch this hilarious duo (sisters Nicola and Rosie Dempsey) who stormed Edinburgh this year with their sharp comedy songwriting and performances.

One minute they’ll be singing about what it’s like having an alien for a boyfriend, the next you’ll realise you’re being drawn into some quite revealing stuff about their relationship.

Touring until November 16, floandjoan.com

Gary Delaney – Gary In Punderland

Gary Delaney’s known for his hilarious one-liners (Picture: Supplied)

The title tells you everything. Gary’s not here with high-concept ideas designed to challenge your perceptions of the world or draw you into uncomfortable truths before releasing you into a laugh.

The Mock The Week star will simply make you laugh solidly with a stream of one-liners and plays on words. Few comics have a gag rate this high.

Touring until September 3, 2023, garydelaney.com/live

Dave Gorman – Powerpoint To The People

Dave Gorman has extended his tour by 37 dates due to demand for tickets (Picture: Joe Maher/Getty Images)

Demand for the original task-driven comedian’s latest tour has been so great that he’s had to extend it by 37 dates.

Expect some masterful storytelling from this sharp and silly mind, fresh from a successful and rather surprising stint on Countdown, as he kicks off this very long tour.

Touring until June 17, 2023, davegorman.com

Henning Wehn – It’ll All Come Out In The Wash

German comedian Henning Wehn is a well-known face on TV and radio (Picture: Supplied)

The distinctively voiced Henning, often described as ‘everyone’s favourite German comedy ambassador’, is a familiar face and voice on television and radio, with credits including 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Guessable, Have I Got News For You and Live At The Apollo. This tour looks like it’s selling out fast.

Touring until March 24, 2023, henningwehn.de

Luisa Omielan – Best Of tour

Luisa Omielan’s tour contains all the best bits from her previous works (Picture: Supplied)

Celebrating ten years since her debut outing (and subsequent book), What Would Beyonce Do?!, the woman with the biggest dog in comedy is doing a ‘Best Of’ tour containing all favourite bits from that show, Am I Right Ladies?, Politics For Bitches and God Is A Woman.

She’s also playing Brighton Dome on November 26 and some other dates in the new year.

Sara Pascoe – Success Story

Sara Pascoe’s new stand-up show explores the many definitions of success (Picture: Supplied)

She makes fantastic comedy, she writes clever books and she presents lovely television shows.

But, after having gone through IVF, she started interrogating the meaning of the word ‘success’, and how that evolves throughout your life. You’ll learn a lot and you’ll have plenty of laughs too.

Touring from Thursday to Apr 22, 2023, sarapascoe.com

Sheeps – Ten Years, Ten Laughs

Alastair Roberts, Liam Williams and Daran Johnson promise their audiences some terrible singing (Picture: Supplied)

If you have nothing to look forward to in January but don’t book tickets to this spectacularly funny show, you only have yourself to blame.

Al Roberts, Liam Williams and Jonno (Daran Johnson) celebrate a decade of making superior sketch comedy together and it’s worth the ticket price for the dreadful singing alone. Golly, it’s marvellous.

Josh Pugh – Egg, Josh Pugh, Chips & Beans

Josh Pugh will be giving some unique observations on life (Picture: Getty)

I’d been a fan of Josh’s tweets for some time but, having never seen him live before August, I wasn’t sure how well his online presence would translate to the stage.

My God, he was so good though, and it was great to see him shortlisted for Dave’s Edinburgh Comedy Award. Don’t miss his unique observations on life.

Touring Feb 3 to Mar 23, 2023 linktr.ee/JoshPugh Comic

Zoe Lyons – Bald Ambition Tour

Zoe Lyons will chat about alopecia and how she’s wasted her money (Picture: Supplied)

You’ll soon get a chance to see how strong and resilient Zoe is on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Win, but if you want to see how truly funny she is, get yourself booked in for this tour. She’ll chat, among other things, about her experience of having alopecia.

In the meantime, look up her episode of podcast, False Economy, in which she tells some very funny stories about how she has spent (or wasted) her hard-earned money.

Touring Feb 2 to Apr 30, 2023, zoelyons.co.uk
