Boy George has vowed to give I’m A Celebrity bosses their money’s worth after landing a huge payday to go Down Under.

The Culture Club legend promised he’ll be as ‘Boy George as possible’ as he looks to gives producers and viewers exactly what they want while eyeing up being crowned Queen of the Jungle.

He told MailOnline: ‘I’ll be a Queen darling! Has anyone gay ever won? It is about bloody time isn’t it, we are so fashionable now, the gays. Listen, I don’t think you should go on a show like this if you don’t want to do your best. It’s the same as walking on stage.

‘I don’t ever walk on stage and think I will give a half level performance. I feel like I’ve been paid well for it so I’m going to be as Boy George as I can.’

The Karma Chameleon hitmaker – who has reportedly banked the show’s highest ever payday – revealed how hosts Ant and Dec played a big role in getting him to finally give in after being asked ‘a couple of times in the past’ to join the reality show.

Recalling an appearance on Saturday Night Takeaway, he said: ‘They asked me “what does Karma Chameleon mean?” And I was like, ‘never having to do I’m A Celebrity’ as a kind of joke.

‘And then they said to me, “What would make you do it?” and I said, “If you did like a vegan or vegetarian one”, I think I said vegan, but I am not vegan, I am vegetarian. And they said we can, and I thought, “Oh s***.” ‘

Meanwhile, Boy George has admitted he didn’t actually get permission to customise his jungle outfit for the big reveal.

‘Well I wasn’t given permission to do anything with the clothes,’ he told Metro.co.uk and other publications ahead of his stint.

‘They sent them over to see if they would fit me, and of course I’m a hat guy and thought it was too small, so I took a pair of scissors to it and cut it up.

‘I thought [ITV bosses] were going to go mad but they seemed to like it, and I can’t promise I’ll be wearing it in there because I haven’t really discussed it.’

Of course, I’m A Celeb fans know all too well that contestants aren’t typically permitted their usual array of cosmetic items, with only a few luxury objects allowed in the camp – so it remains to be seen if he’ll be able to sport his own outfits or trademark makeup.

Boy George joins a a star-studded lineup in Australia as the shows kicks off this weekend, with radio star Chris Moyles, Love Island’s Olivia Attwood and the camp’s first ever royal Mike Tindall all set to appear.

And then there’s Matt Hancock, who’s joining amid a wave of controversy and sure to spark some conversation in camp.

I’m A Celebrity 2022 launches on Sunday November 6 at 9pm on ITV.
