It seems like the battle of the best Christmas adverts is alive and kicking!

To help spread the Christmas cheer (singing loud for all to hear) Asda enlisted the help of Will Ferrell’s Buddy for their Xmas 2022 advert.

The beloved character ventures inside and quickly notices a sign calling out for ‘Christmas colleagues’.

When a manager comes to meet him to have a chat about a job, Buddy makes sure to tell him that his outfit is certainly not a costume, because he’s an Elf.

Just like the iconic scene in the 2003 hit, he stays up decorating the whole place (with one small run-in with a Christmas tree that he manages to topple) and the next morning his efforts are rewarded when he’s told he’s got the job.

While fans were in awe of the special appearance, retail brand and fellow Xmas advert competitor John Lewis couldn’t resist sharing their thoughts.

Alright… this one’s quite good 🎄 But we have to ask, how many times did you have to watch Elf @asda? 👀 https://t.co/y71W9JfZi3

‘Alright… this one’s quite good,’ they tweeted.

‘But we have to ask, how many times did you have to watch Elf @asda?’

The supermarket company clearly saw the funny side of it all and replied: ‘Ah thanks @JohnLewisRetail, we’re glad you think so. We’ve lost count now – but you absolutely can’t beat it for Christmas feels.’

Fans were loving the lighthearted rivalry, with one person writing: ‘Shots fired’

Curious to know when John Lewis planned on dropping their annual advert, another added: ‘JOHN LEWIS IM READY MAKE ME CRY.’

As it stands, there’s no announced date for John Lewis & Partners to release their advert.

However, we can predict that the advert may arrive in the next week or so  – if the popular department store follows the same pattern it has in previous years.

From 2015 to 2021, John Lewis’s Christmas adverts have all dropped between November 4 and November 15.
