Activision has lifted the lid on Season 1 of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and the new Warzone 2.0, with new weapons and operators.

It’s less than a week now until the launch of free-to-play game Warzone 2.0 and more and more details are being shared about the new battle royale, as well as the first proper look at its new extraction mode, called DMZ.

Various streamers were invited to play DMZ in Los Angeles and the videos that have resulted show it’s more involved than inspirations like Escape From Tarkov, with side objectives and faction-based narrative missions.

The launch of Warzone 2.0 will coincide with the start of Season 1 of Modern Warfare 2, with Activision also unveiling a revamped battle pass that works more similarly to Fortnite, in terms of giving you more freedom over which items you choose to unlock at any given time.

The new battle pass will allow you to unlock five items from each of its 20 ‘sectors’ (the whole thing is presented as a large map), using tokens that can either unlock items themselves or other sectors.

The pass will include two new weapons, in the the BAS-P sub-machinegun and Victus XMR sniper rifle, with the M13B and Chimera assault rifles available via mid-season bundles or unlock challenges.

Six new operators will also be added during the course of the season: Zeus, Klaus, and Gaz, and footballers Neymar Jr., Paul Pogba, and Leo Messi. That’s certainly going to go down as one of the weirdest World Cup tie-ins, but it’s been rumoured for a while now.

There’ll also be a new Prestige rank, once you get past rank 55, with new challenges and rewards available at ranks 100, 150, 200, and 250.

Finally, there’s the new custom loadouts and backpack system, which allow you to purchase new weapons while you’re playing. Although new loadouts have to be earned by fighting AI-controlled enemies or getting to loadout drops before anyone else.

The official Call Of Duty blog also includes information on new vehicles and underwater combat in Warzone 2.0 and the new 2v2 version of Gulag, in addition to a gazillion other tweaks and changes.

Call Of Duty: Warzone 2.0 launches on Wednesday, November 16 at 6pm GMT for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
