Finding all the Nornir Chests in God Of War Ragnarök isn’t easy, not unless you have a handy guide…

Besides its main storyline, God Of War Ragnarök is filled with side quests, ranging from going on a treasure hunt to spotting all of Odin’s ravens. These smaller adventures usually grant you loot or skills, which can come in handy when facing powerful enemies towards the end of the game.

You’ll also notice there are some special, sealed chests called Nornir Chests. They contain Idunn Apples and Horns of Blood Mead, which increase your max health and Spartan Rage bars once you collect enough.

As they’re hidden throughout the realms, it can prove tricky to find all of them, and even then you have to find their matching runes. The runes are usually within close vicinity of each Nornir Chest, but they’re often easy to miss.

All the Nornir Chests in Alfheim

There are seven Nornir Chests you can track down in the realm of Alfheim. Here’s where you can find them:

The Strond (x2)

Found during the Groa’s Secret quest. You’ll be able to see the first Nornir Chest as soon as you enter the Strond. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune is opposite the Nornir Chest on the cliff edge. Another is past the chest and down to the left. For the third, return to the higher path and go up. After Týr points out the Temple of Light, look down to the left for the last rune.

The second chest in the Strond cannot be opened until you complete the Forging Destiny quest. After fighting Light Elves for the first time, you’ll lift a stone pillar to go forward. After a bit, you’ll see a Nornir Chest to your right. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune is on the right of the Nornir Chest. The second is back towards the main path, sitting on some rocks by a tree. The third is behind a rock you can destroy with your Draupnir Spear.

Temple of Light (x1)

Found during the Groa’s Secret quest. You’ll see the Nornir Chest on your right after you push over the statue to create a light bridge. It will reward you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

The first rune is down the hallway to the right of the chest. The next rune is around the corner from the chest to the left. The final rune is just behind the chest.

The Barrens (x1)

Found during the Groa’s Secret quest. At the northernmost point of the Barrens, you’ll see a structure taken over by the Hive vines. On the west side of the building, you can cut through them all to clear the Hive. Then, go around to the other side to find the Nornir Chest. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune is to the left of the chest. The second is on the roof of the structure, and the final rune is around the right-hand side of the structure.

The Below (x1)

Found during the Groa’s Secret quest. Grapple across the canyon, then drop down to the lower level and you’ll find the Nornir Chest. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

The first rune is just opposite the chest. For the second rune, open the nearby wooden door and it’s inside on the left. The third rune will require you to progress a little further. Cut through the vines using the Twilight Stone above them and then climb across to the new area, and finally drop down to the location of the third rune.

The Forbidden Sands (x2)

Found after completing the Reckoning quest and the favour, Song of the Sands. To the southwest of the Forbidden Sands, you will find a pillar that’s toppled over, and a heart painted on the rock. Go under the pillar to find the first Nornir Chest. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

The first brazier is located to the right of the chest. To the left, you’ll see another one up on a tall rock, and to the right, the third one, even higher up. You’ll need to chain runic arrows together to light them.

For the second Nornir Chest, you’ll need to head towards the Elven library to the east of the Forbidden Sands. As you go closer, note the loose rubble on the ground, clear the path forward and you’ll find this Nornir Chest. It rewards you with 10x Shattered Rune and an Amulet Enchantment (Alfheim’s Justice).

The first rune brazier can be seen over to the left, next to a small fire. Opposite, on the right-hand side, you can see the next brazier a short distance from another fire. Then look up to see some Hive material, behind it is the third brazier.

All the Nornir Chests in Midgard

There are four Nornir Chests you can track down in the realm of Midgard. Here’s where you can find them:

Raider Hideout (x1)

Found during the Word of Fate quest. Raider Hideout can be found to the northeast of Týr’s Temple. The Nornir Chest can be found over to the left-hand side of the area. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

The first rune is to the left of the Nornir Chest, behind some red vines. Next, drop down to the lower part of the room and on the back wall you’ll see some gold debris – throw a bomb at it to reveal the second brazier. The third is opposite the stairs, but you will need a combo of a firebomb and runic arrows to reach it.

The Oarsmen (x1)

Found during the Word of Fate quest. Upon entering the Oarsmen, deal with the Raiders and the Nornir Chest is ahead to the right. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

One of the runes is to the left of the Nornir Chest, through a gap in the wall. The next is over on the other side of the room, to the right of a small chest. The third is on the right of the Nornir Chest, but you’ll have to open the door from the other side first.

The Lost Treasury (x1)

Found during the Word of Fate quest. The Nornir Chest is located outside the treasury to the right. You’ll need to solve the puzzle of opening the door in order to find all three runes. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

The first two runes are located on the upper level, one to the right and one to the left. Both can be reached without runic arrows. The third is through the door to the right once you get it open.

Well of Urd (x1)

Found during the Word of Fate quest. From the entrance to Lake Of Nine, head left and turn left again when you can. Then go up a narrow path and jump over the ledge and the Nornir Chest will wait for you behind some rocks. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune is opposite the Nornir Chest. For the other two, you need to use the nearby grapple points. Climb to the top and then you’ll see the second rune over on the right. From there, drop down to the lower level, and the final rune can be seen up on the left.

All the Nornir Chests in Muspelheim

There are two Nornir Chests you can track down in the realm of Muspelheim. Here’s where you can find them:

The Crucible (x1)

You can see the Nornir Chest from Brok’s workshop down in the arena below. It rewards you with a Chaos Flame.

This Nornir Chest is unique in that you must find and complete three tough combat trials to open it, instead of runes. Standing in front of the chest, head to the left and grapple up to find the first set of challenges. The next challenge is further to the right, then up another grapple point and to the left. The third is further along the path over a couple of jumps.

It’ll be as if you’re right there with them (pic: Sony)

Burning Cliffs (x1)

The first rune brazier is back the way you came, over to the left of where the rock used to be. Next, head back to the chest and look opposite it to see another rune brazier. For the third, face the chest and look up and to the right.

All the Nornir Chests in Nilfheim

There is only one Nornir Chest you can track down in the realm of Nilfheim. Here’s where you can find it:

Aesir Prison Wreckage (x1)

Found after completing the Realms at War quest. Travel to the Mystic Gateway at the Raven Tree, as you walk towards it you’ll see a new pathway to the left. This leads to Aesir Prison Wreckage. You will find this Nornir Chest in this new area as part of the favour, the Broken Prison. It rewards you with:

x10 Petrified Bone x6 Luminous Alloy x25 Asgardian Ingot x40 Shattered Rune x100,000 Hacksilver

The first rune statue is just opposite the Nornir Chest, in the corner by the metal door. The next one is a level down, go there and head forward to find it inside one of the cells. For the third rune, look down into the central pit hole to find it among the ice.

You’ll often need to hop on a boat to get to remote areas (pic: Sony)

There are 10 Nornir Chests you can track down in the realm of Svartalheim. Here’s where you can find them:

Aurvangar Wetlands (x2)

Found during the Quest for Týr quest. After hopping on a boat, you’ll shore up on a beach with a geyser. Throw your axe at its base to freeze it and get across, then to the right, you’ll see the Nornir Chest. It will reward you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune can be seen just beyond the chest on a small island in the water, and the second rune is found just to the right of the chest. For the third one, jump back towards the geysers, freeze the one on your left and grapple up to the higher ledge. The rune will be on the left next to a tree.

For the second Nornir Chest, you’ll need to sail forward down the river, hugging the left side. You’ll find a small tunnel through which you can pass, leave your boat, walk straight ahead and you’ll see the Nornir Chest. It will reward you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

The first rune spinner is accessed through an arch to the left of the chest but be careful as there are enemies lurking. The second rune is over to the right of the chest and again, you’ll need to freeze a geyser to check you have selected the right rune. On the far left from the chest, you can go up to a higher area. Once you’re there on the right is the third rune spinner.

Dragon Beach (x1)

Found during the Quest for Týr quest. Once you step on the shore, the Nornir Chest is straight ahead on the beach. It will reward you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune is hidden by a geyser just behind the Nornir Chest, and the second one is located behind the large dragon statue. The final rune is hidden behind another geyser, this time opposite the dragon statue.

Jarnsmida Pitmines (x1)

Found during the Quest for Týr quest. After grappling over the cargo container, you’ll see this chest straight away. This chest rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

You need to light the braziers bearing the three runes. The first rune is to the left of the Nornir Chest, and for the second one just drop down to the left. For the third, grapple back over and stop the water supply with your axe so you can light the brazier.

Myrkr Tunnels (x1)

The Forge (x1)

Found after completing the Forging Destiny quest. After meeting back up with Freya, go back to the earlier portion of the Forge. The chest is next to a rock with a green love heart. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

The first rune is back out the way you came, sitting on some rocks. Return to the Nornir Chest location for the other two. One is on the rock face opposite the chest, on the right-hand side, and the other is across another cliff, opposite some wooden posts.

The Applecore (x2)

Found after completing the Forging Destiny quest. The first Nornir Chest in Applecore is in the same area as the Yggdrasil Rift, just over to the right. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

Look to the right of the chest, the first rune is hidden behind some falling water. The second is left of the chest, opposite the Mystic Gateway, and the third is further left behind by some debris.

To find the second Nornir Chest, return to the Applecore via Sverd Sands, using the ferry from Aurvangar Wetlands. After using the big lift, continue down the path until you see a spear embed point on the right. Then climb up to find the chest, which rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

The first two runes can be seen off to the left of the Nornir Chest. Then climb the two ledges on its right, and there you’ll find the third rune.

There are 11 Nornir Chests you can track down in the realm of Vanaheim. Here’s where you can find them:

The Southern Wilds (x1)

Found during the Reckoning quest. This Nornir Chest is very easy to spot as it can be found along the main path. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune spinner can be found to the right of the chest. It’s covered in blue vines, so you’ll need to use the Blades Of Chaos to clear them. The second rune spinner is back the way you came, up high on your left, and the third rune is near the chest, up and to the left on top of a rock.

The Abandoned Village (x1)

Found during the Reckoning quest. Along the main path of the village, go over the broken bridge and then use the nearby crane to solve the puzzle. You’ll need to burn the blue vines and cross the bridge, and then you’ll see the Nornir Chest down to the right. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

To get the first rune you need to turn the crane so the bucket is near to you, then pull it towards you with the Blades to ignite the rune. For the next one, grapple over to the left and also tug the bucket in the same direction to light it. The third is just opposite the Nornir Chest and is easy to reach.

You’ll often need to defeat nearby enemies to unlock a Nornir Chest (pic: Sony)

Cliffside Ruins (x1)

Found after completing the Reckoning quest. Roughly opposite the location of Brok’s workshop in River Delta, you’ll find Cliffside Ruins. After hopping off the boat, head under the archway ahead of you and you’ll see the Nornir Chest. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

From the Nornir Chest, head to the left of the area to find a wall you can climb. Once you’re up there, jump across the pillars to the left, where you can see the chain, and if you look down, you can see the first rune spinner. The second one is to the right of the Nornir Chest on the other side of the wall, covered in red vines. The last rune spinner can be seen from the beach where Brok’s workshop is.

The Veiled Passage (x1)

Found after completing the Reckoning quest. As you head towards Goddess Falls, stick to the left and you’ll see the Veiled Passage. On the right, you’ll find a beach where you’ll find firebombs. Use one to blow up the gold deposit, and you’ll find the Nornir Chest. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

All three runes can be seen looking in the opposite direction from the chest, then to hit all three use a combination of chained runic arrows and a firebomb.

Goddess Falls (x1)

Found after completing the Reckoning quest. After going up the cliffs, you will see the Nornir Chest at the back of the scenery. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune brazier is to the right of the chest, and you should use the rocks in the water to chain runic arrows together and light it. Turn around and grapple over to a waterfall on your right, and then another rune brazier is at the top. From there, turn around and the third brazier is sitting on the rocks.

Eastern Barri Woods (x1)

Found during the Creatures of Prophecy quest. As you follow the main path, you’ll reach a fork in the road. Take the left path and follow the steps up to find the Nornir Chest. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

Just up and to the left of the chest, you’ll find the first rune spinner, then look further to the left and there’s a path. Fight the Wulver and you’ll see the second rune spinner straight after. The third is back on the steps, on the right as you head back down. It’s covered in blue vines, so you’ll need to clear them first.

Kratos and Atreus aren’t the only main characters (pic: Sony)

The Plains (x2)

Found after completing the Creatures of Prophecy quest. From the Mystic Gateway at Crater Entrance, go down to the open area. Head forward and to the right, and after fighting off some enemies you’ll see the first Nornir Chest in the Plains near a high wall. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune is to the left of the chest and the second is to the right of the chest, across the pond. The third can be found around the other side of the large rock, but it’s blocked by blue vines. Go around and you’ll be able to clear them.

To find the second Nornir Chest in the area, as you’re on the path from the Mystic Gateway at Western Plains, head forward and drop down to the left. After defeating Vali The Oath Guard, approach the western edge of this area to see a poisonous lantern. Throw your axe at it and leave it there. Now head back the way you came, through the doorway and over the low ledge. Go down and open the door on the right, and you’ll see the second Nornir Chest. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

The first rune is on the far left of this area sitting on a rock, and the second is on the right of the area, inside a hollow tree. For the third, throw your axe at the poison lantern just to the right of the Nornir Chest, then go closer and turn to the left to find the third rune behind a tree.

The Jungle (x1)

Found after completing the Creatures of Prophecy quest and the favour Return Of The River. The Nornir Chest in the Jungle is located just to the left of the Mystic Gateway. You can get to it via the river by sailing south from the Mystic Gateway at Jungle Entrance. It rewards you with an Idunn Apple.

The first rune spinner is to the right of the chest. Once you have secured that, go up the steps leading to the Celestial Altar and look to the right to find another spinner covered in red vines. For the last one, use the grapple point and then turn around to find it above the Celestial Altar.

The Sinkholes (x2)

Found after completing the Creatures of Prophecy quest. While you’re at the Mystic Gateway at Crater Entrance, head west and pass through the circular arch. You’ll come up to a rope you can zip down, and when you land, turn around and walk – you’ll soon find the first Nornir Chest inside a cave. It rewards you with a Horn of Blood Mead.

You’ll need to use sigil arrows to light all the rune braziers. The first brazier can be found to the left of the chest, on the rock outside, and the second is back out the way you came into the cave, across a pond. For the third, use the nearby grapple point, turn around and look up to see it halfway up the cliff.

To unlock the second Nornir Chest in the Sinkholes, you need to also complete the favour Return Of The River. Again, once you’re at the Mystic Gateway, go down to the boat and follow the river to the right. Hop off at the beach and open the door on the right, then go through the tunnels and climb up to a new area. You’ll then find the second Nornir Chest around the right wing of the area. It rewards you with 10x Shattered Rune and an Amulet Enchantment (Midgard’s Bravery).

You’ll need to use the spear to hit the three runes. Further down the path from the chest, you can see one of them on the left. The second rune is back the other way, to the right of the cave, and from there, turn around and look up at the pillar beside the chain for the third one.
