Alesha Dixon has opened up on her refusal to succumb to ‘mum guilt’ when she has to leave her children to go to work.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge, 44, discussed how she balances her TV career with being a mother and striking the balance between being there for her children and working hard to give them a better life.

Alesha is mum to two daughters; Azura, eight, and Anaya, three, which she shares with her partner Azuka Ononye.

She told the Evening Standard: ‘Of course you have days where you need to be out of the house and sometimes my three-year-old gets upset when mummy leaves.

‘I always say to mums, I don’t suffer with the “mum guilt”. I miss them so much, but I don’t feel guilty because I walk out that door and I’m going to work for them, to make sure they have a better life and that they are inspired in their own lives.’

Alesha, who began her career in girl group Mis-Teeq in 1999, revealed that she makes sure to break her days down to balance her tine between work and being ‘present’ for her children too.

‘Some days I’m pulling my hair out and it’s challenging and it can be stressful,’ she admitted. ‘But the joy outweighs all of that and the blessing of having two amazing, beautiful children that genuinely bring so much joy to my life.’

As she manages her own diary since quitting management, Alesha tries to make sure that she gets most of her work commitments out of the way while her children are at school so they can spend quality time with her when they are back home in the afternoon.

Alesha also revealed that she hopes to ‘inspire’ and ‘motivate’ her own children by showing them a good example with her own work ethic.

She wants to show her daughters ‘what’s possible’ and that they can create the life that they want for themselves if they work for it.

While she doesn’t know if either of her girls will follow in her showbiz footsteps, Alesha also vowed to support them in whatever career path they choose when they are older.
