Married At First Sight UK has completely smashed ratings charts following its dramatic seventh series, becoming Channel 4’s most successful show of 2022.

The chaotic social experiment, which sees total strangers matched together by experts Paul C Brunson, Charlene Douglas, and Mel Schilling, and meeting for the first time on their wedding day, pulled out the big stops this year.

From Matt Murray ditching his wife Gemma Rose to pursue a romance with Whitney Hughes, and Jordan Emmett Connelly breaking things off with Chanita Stephenson at the last minute, viewers couldn’t stop watching.

The most recent Barb data has confirmed that the programme was officially the top show of any UK broadcaster’s streaming service during September and October.

The series, which saw just one couple, Jenna Robinson and Zoe Clifton, leave the experiment together, amassed a whopping 51.7million views on All 4’s streaming platform, making it the network’s biggest hit in 2022.

Barb (Broadcasters Audience Research Board) is, of course, the company that measures TV viewership in the UK.

And luckily, there will be plenty more Married At First Sight UK to come as the show will be returning for another chapter next year.

The Channel 4 website announced in September that it is on the hunt for single pringles to take part in the next instalment, so if you’re up for marrying a total stranger then why not shoot your shot?

This year’s programme was the most dramatic yet and featured many explosive meltdowns thanks to Thomas Hartley.

Following the show’s ending, Thomas landed himself in hot water with co-star Jenna after he made vile comments about her dad, who died during the Covid pandemic.

While the television personality apologised ‘sincerely’ for causing offense and the podcast was removed, Jenna admitted she was ‘struggling’ and hadn’t received a personal apology.

Married At First Sight UK returns to E4 in 2023.
