The Chase star Paul Sinha has confirmed he’ll be absent from the upcoming series of Beat The Chasers due to illness.

ITV announced the fast-paced quiz show will be returning this May for a five-day series starting from May 3 – but fans were quick to spot Paul missing from the line-up.

Taking to Twitter, Paul explained that he had to pull out due to illness.

‘On the week of recording, I was unwell. Happens,’ he simply wrote.

Mark Labbett, Jenny Ryan, Shaun Wallace, Darragh Ennis and Anne Hegerty all star on The Chase alongside Paul, who is nicknamed The Sinnerman.

The five will all feature on the show as normal, with Bradley Walsh hosting.

Paul, a stand-up comedian as well as a super-quizzer, is keeping the reasons behind his absence private, but did warn fans in March he’ll be missing from upcoming episodes.

He did however, note that he was ‘feeling much better now’.

However, he has been public about his continuing health with Parkinson’s Disease.

Earlier today, he epically took down a troll who targeted him over the diagnosis – a neurological condition where nerve cells are lost in the brain – and declared: ‘Congratulations of the fifth lowest Parkinson’s jibe I’ve received on Twitter. [sic]’

‘I shall continue to type, despite errors like the use of the word “of” above,’ he joked.

‘Because I believe that a lack of circulating dopamine should not be an obstruction to self-expression, and the quest for self improvement.

‘And I remain confident in my late stage that my tweets will still show more coherence and thought than the post I have retweeted.’

The person later deleted the message.

Beat the Chasers returns with a five-nightly special from May 3 to 7 at 9pm on ITV.
