A developer suggests Arena mode will be significant to Apex Legends
According to a report by GameSpot, Apex Legends is posturing to go beyond Battle Royale format. Respawn entertainment executive, Ryan K. Rigney, also shared an interesting response on the thread. He suggested that Arena mode will add significant value to the game. It will also imitate the unprecedented success of Fortnite and League of Legends’ team fight tactics.
Few game devs recognized this lesson from Fortnite:
You can delight players and drive massive growth for a game by adding a new / different genre as a “mode” and supporting it as a full game.
League of Legends did it with TFT.

The developer wants to deliver a story uniquely
In conversation with Gamespot, the developer Chad Grenier shared important details about the transformation of the title. He stated the studio has assigned a dedicated team to work on quest lines that were in Season 5.
However, the unprecedented situation with COVID-19 caused a lot of issues for the studio. It compelled them to come up with new plans to deliver stories through Battle Royale without adding story-oriented quests and missions.
“A lot of those people have moved on to work on things for future seasons, to tell a story, and bring some new, cool things to the game. So, we’re not done doing things like that. We’re always innovating and trying to push things forward. And we’ve got a lot of people on the team that loved doing things like that. So, yeah–I think you’ll be surprised with future stuff coming out.”
Hence, the studio decided to add comic strips and audio logs to tell the story. It enabled them to keep the Battle Royale experience intact, while also providing interesting lore snippets. Safe to say, the title will invent the wheel once again, and add yet another impressive content that will shed light on the lore as well.
