I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Mike Tindall is ‘suppressing quite a lot of resentment or dislike’ for Matt Hancock, according to boy language expert Judi James.

The camp’s first ever royal and the former health secretary have made it into the final four, along with soaps star Owen Warner and Lioness Jill Scott.

On Friday, Mike and Hancock undertook a bushtucker trial together, and seemed to gush over each other as they left the camp.

The MP described them as the ‘dream team’, telling his co-star ‘You’ve got this,’ before Mike called Hancock ‘the best’.

Hancock replied: ‘No you’re the best,’ to which Mike then quipped: ‘No, no, you’re the best.’

However, Judi doesn’t think Mike has warmed to Hancock at all, since tensions flew in the camp between them not long ago.

Judi told Metro.co.uk: ‘Mike might be going through the motions in terms of teamwork with Matt Hancock but his body language signals suggest he’s not warmed one jot to the politician since his first negative assessment on him when he entered the jungle.’

She continued: ‘Matt’s eye expressions are hugely revealing. When he’s being playful with a bit of banter you can always see heavy crinkling at the outer edges of his eyes so everyone in camp and watching on screen can tell he’s really being either good-humoured and fun or protective, warm and caring.

‘In his “double act” with Matt though, his eye expression looks uncharacteristically dead and he performs at least three key facial gestures to suggest he’s still suppressing quiet a lot of resentment or dislike for Matt or for what he stands for.’

Judi added: ‘Mike, like Chris [Moyles], would be the guy to see though Matt’s persona in there but it’s important not to destroy the peaceful nature of the group or to appear to be bullying Matt if he became isolated from the others, but the reveal of his inner feelings looks obvious.

‘Mike was subdued throughout this trial with Matt when he’s usually up for anything to cut through the boredom and get an adrenalin buzz.

‘He arrived in the clearing looking reluctant with his head dipped low and his comment to Ant and Dec sounded ambiguous.

‘He told them it was “lovely” and that “I’m always happy to see – you“, Ant and Dec seemed to take this as a sarcastic comment against themselves but the emphasis on “You” could have been a dig at Matt.’

Referring to their ‘banter’ before taking on the trial, Judie said: ‘A moment before we saw Matt talking excitedly into the camera like a dad at a kids’ party while Mike stood beside him, not sharing the vibe.

‘Matt said “We’ve got the dream team” and this is where Mike’s flurry of denial signals suggested he was being ironic at best and rejecting at worst.

‘He glanced at Matt then looked away with an ironic eye expression. There was none of his signature eye crinkling to show warmth or humour. He chewed at his lips in a self-attack gesture that suggests suppressed annoyance and as Matt spoke he rolled his eyes upward dismissively and sucked his lips in hard.

‘Matt spoke to him like a kid: “Will we get five?” and Mike said “Yeah” but his vocal tone and his facial expression were flatly incongruent and his nose turned up at the side in a small sneer of dislike.

‘There was even some pointing as they “joked” about who was the best, with a stabbing pointed finger looking like a micro-attack rather than a gesture of fondness.’

After Seann Walsh became the seventh star to be voted out of the camp, Hancock voiced his surprise at making it into the final four.

Speaking in the Bush Telegraph he said: ‘We’re so near the end and I’m delighted to be still here’.

‘I never thought I’d make it to the final five and here I am, so I’m very grateful.’

While Seann also said he ‘cannot believe’ he hasn’t been booted out, it’s understandable why Hancock would be genuinely confused after he copped significant criticism for signing up.

When chatting to Ant and Dec after leaving the jungle on Thursday, Chris also joked that he was upset the Hancock was more popular with the public.

‘I’m gutted that Matt Hancock is more popular than me. What the bejeezus is going on?’, he asked in his exit interview.

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
