Sami Zayn has admitted his emotions ‘spilled out’ after an intense night at WWE Survivor Series.

The Honorary Uce was fighting alongside The Bloodline in an historic War Games match – often stylised as WarGames – and the story of the bout saw him sacrifice his real life best friend Kevin Owens to prove his loyalty to Roman Reigns and the family.

The match came after Sami was forced to miss SmackDown due to personal reasons earlier this month, while his genuine past with Owens also played into a ‘very real’ night, as did the way the fans have organically rallied behind him to make him a focal point of the Bloodline saga.

‘Tonight was actually very emotional. It’s weird to have very real emotions come to the front even during a performance,’ he said in a press conference after the show.

‘The audience is well aware of our longstanding history together. That’s not just a story we tell on television, that’s real. 20 years doing this stuff together… When we’re doing what we’re doing out there, it’s not just really good acting.

‘It’s just real stuff coming to the fore. It was very emotional for a number of reasons tonight.’

Sami noted there are ‘so many elements’ that went into his performance on Saturday night, and he couldn’t hold back his emotions in the moment.

‘All that contributes to the cocktail of adrenaline and emotion of everything else,’ he explained. ‘That spilled out there and I don’t know how much the cameras caught, but a lot came out there.’

He added: ‘Sometimes the story just tells itself, and I felt like that’s kinda what happened out there tonight.’

Meanwhile, Sami previously admitted his on-screen friction with Jey Uso – which has played a huge role in the way The Bloodline and Roman Reigns’ story has developed – was never consciously such a big part of the plan.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘I don’t know if that was ever the big starting point plan, “Oh well we’ll have this huge rift between these two guys”. I don’t know if that’s really what we set out to do at the beginning. It snowballed!’

WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
