Doctor Who filming has officially begun on Ncuti Gatwa’s series, and we couldn’t be more excited for a whole new era of the BBC show.

New Doctor Ncuti is set to take over the keys to the Tardis starting from the festive period next year, alongside actress Millie Gibson, who’s playing companion Ruby Sunday.

The pair are now hard at work in Cardiff, with a tweet from the Doctor Who account reading: ‘Action! Filming has officially begun today for the next series of #DoctorWho.’

Millie also shared a snap of a bouquet of flowers she’d received on her first day.

‘First day… officially a Cardiff resident,’ she wrote.

Former showrunner Russell T Davies has returned to helm Doctor Who, starting with three special episodes for the 60th anniversary starring David Tennant as the 14th Doctor and Catherine Tate as returning companion Donna Noble.

Actors including Neil Patrick Harris and Yasmin Finney will also join the cast, with it recently being reported that the BBC is hoping to enlist Phoebe Waller-Bridge as part of the writing team, after a huge deal between the BBC and Disney+.

Russell said of the new era: ‘If you thought the appearance of David Tennant was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way!

‘The path to Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun! And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why?

‘We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose!’

It comes after Jodie Whittaker stepped down as the 13th Doctor earlier this year in The Power of the Doctor, finishing up a three series run with showrunner Chris Chibnall.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One next November.
