Mindy Kaling has confessed that much of The Office wouldn’t be made today as it is ‘so inappropriate now’.

The hugely popular sitcom ran for nine seasons between 2005 and 2013, focusing on manager Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and his employees at paper company Dunder Mifflin.

Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fisher, Ed Helms and Angela Kinsey were also among the cast, with millions tuning in to watch the chaos unfold.

However, discussing the comedy during an appearance on Good Morning America, Mindy – who played Kelly Kapoor – suggested that they wouldn’t be able to make the show now, which adds to the reason it is still adored.

When asked when she would introduce her children to the series, the 43-year-old joked: ‘I think maybe never? That show is so inappropriate now. The writers, who I’m still in touch with, we always talk about how so much of that show we probably couldn’t make now.

‘Tastes have changed, and honestly what offends people has changed so much now.

‘I think that actually is one of the reasons the show is popular, because people feel like there’s something fearless about it, or taboo that it talks about on the show.’

Discussing what Kelly might be doing today, she added: ‘I think she would have quit Dunder Mifflin to become an influencer. And then probably been cancelled almost immediately. That’s what I would see for her.

‘Actually, most of the characters on that show would be cancelled by now.’

Could you imagine Kelly Kapoor taking on the influencer world?

Ricky Gervais was behind the US version of the comedy, after the UK series became successful – introducing us to the outrageous David Brent.

Mackenzie Crook, who played his assistant, Gareth Keenan, confessed that the British version also wouldn’t fare well in the current climate.

‘I didn’t remember him being so… urgh. The things he comes out with when he’s trying to chat up girls are diabolical,’ he told The Independent of his character.

‘What we were portraying back then were things that were being said in an office environment, and people were getting away with it. So we were pointing it out – laughing at those people who were behaving so badly.

‘But yeah, I don’t think those things could be said in a workplace anymore without somebody picking up on them. So no, you wouldn’t have it now in a comedy.’
