A quarter of a century after Titanic propelled Kate Winslet to worldwide stardom, she’s reunited with the film’s director James Cameron at the Avatar 2 world premiere.

Avatar: The Way of Water only marks the second time that Kate, 47, and James, 68, have worked together since she appeared as Rose on the ill-fated historical ship.

The Mare of Easttown star appears in the blockbuster sequel as Ronal, a free diver of the Metkayina who’s been described as a ‘pivotal character’ in the franchise.

Kate held hands with the director extraordinaire as they stood on the aptly coloured blue carpet in London for the extravagant event, alongside other cast members including Sigourney Weaver, Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington.

The actress wore a grey halterneck gown embellished by the neckline for the premiere, with her hair styled in a toussled updo as she wore dangly earrings to complete her look.

James looked suave in a black velvet suit, sticking to the Avatar theme with an electric blue tie.

Sigourney, who stars in the film as Kiri, Jake and Neytiri’s adopted teenage daughter, also wore an ensemble with embellishments, opting for a black suit combo.

She and Kate held hands as they posed for photographers, after starring alongside one another in a feature film for the first time.

Sigourney is no stranger to the world of Avatar, having starred in the 2009 film as exobiologist Dr Grace Augustine, before returning in a new role for the sequel.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Zoe reprises her role as Neytiri in the movie, and the actress certainly made a strong impression at the world premiere with her other-worldly dress and matching jewellery.

Sam, who appears as Jake Sully in the franchise, a human who became one of the Na’vi at the end of the first movie, attended the event with his wife of eight years, Laura Worthington.

Trinity Jo-Li Bliss joins the Avatar film franchise as Tuktirey, Jake and Neytiri’s youngest child.

The 13-year-old went for a gothic black prom-inspired dress for the event, where she was photographed with her co-star Jack Champion, 18, whose character Spider was adopted by Jake and Neytiri.

The blue carpet boasted plenty of celebrated stars, including The Woman King actor John Boyega, who donned a brown, elegant jacket for the spectacle.

Avatar 2 star Bailey Bass brought the house down in a stunning plum purple gown, beaming as she made her mark at the event.

The official synopsis of Avatar 2 reads: ‘With Avatar: The Way of Water, the cinematic experience reaches new heights as Cameron transports audiences back to the magnificent world of Pandora in a spectacular and stirring action-packed adventure.

‘Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water begins to tell the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.’

Avatar: The Way of Water releases in cinemas on December 16.
