WWE superstar Asuka has hinted at a major change in direction and style as she looks to go back to her haunting roots.

Before joining WWE in 2015 and making her name on the NXT brand, she was known for her work in Japan as Kana, a sinister murderous clown character with a seriously demonic edge.

Now, the Empress of Tomorrow has teased a return to that look and persona with a series of terrifying tweets featuring pictures from her early career.

First, she responded to WWE’s Twitter account asking fans who they were picking to win the Triple Threat on Raw between Asuka, Rhea Ripley and Bayley, which was won by the latter.

‘I think everyone should choose someone other than me,’ she said, before later adding: ‘I don’t want respect. I have never wanted to be respected. I don’t care about that. I’m going to listen to the new Metallica song and go to bed.’

She then shared the shots of herself as Kana in the clown makeup and very different outfits, where she posted more troublesome comments hinting at a change in the near future.

Verstossen sei auf ewig,
Verlassen sei auf ewig,
Zertrümmert sei’n auf ewig
Alle Bande der Natur.

Disowned may you be forever,
Abandoned may you be forever,
Destroyed be forever
All the bonds of nature. pic.twitter.com/AcNCSOzAOe

‘The world is full of s**t’, she tweeted.

She added: ‘Goodbye cruel world.’

She has since taken to Twitter again with a clip of herself applying the Kana makeup, with Mozart’s Queen of the Night aria blaring out.

She captioned the video: ‘Disowned may you be forever, Abandoned may you be forever, Destroyed be forever All the bonds of nature.’

Fans are excited by a potential shift in direction for Asuka, who held the Women’s Tag Team Titles with Alexa Bliss for less than a week before losing them back to Damage CTRL at the beginning of November – while she hasn’t won singles gold in over two years.

‘Kana lives. Asuka dies. No one is ready for Kana,’ wrote one fan, while a second follower tweeted: ‘This is a work. Goodbye Asuka our beautiful Empress…Hello Kana! it’s nice to see you again. It’s been awhile. I pity those that cross you.’

WWE Raw airs Monday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
