Britney Spears’ husband Sam Asghari has explained her decision to quit Instagram.

Fans were concerned when the Toxic singer’s Instagram account suddenly disappeared this week despite her being very active on the app.

Her husband Sam, who she married this summer, has now confirmed the 41-year-old is taking a break from social media to protect her mental health.

‘Social media can be traumatising. Sometimes it’s good to take a break. She has her voice and is a free woman,’ he explained.

The fitness trainer, 28, went on to defend his own decision not to fill his Instagram page with photos of the popstar, stating he has ‘respect for her privacy’ and ‘protect[s] it at all times’.

In a series of posts on his Instagram stories, Sam added: ‘Out of respect for her privacy, I don’t post her 247. I ask for her permission if I ever do.

‘For my job I have to attend many events. It would be my honour if she joins. For her those things are not fun. They’re hictic [sic] and full of stress. Specially, since she’s been doing these things since 8 years old.

‘Plus she’s already slayed every single one she has been to.’

He concluded: ‘I’ve always respected and supported her privacy with everything I’ve had. I ask of you supportive and protective fans to do the same.

‘Sometimes being over protective can cause more stress and damage.’

In one of her recent Instagram posts before shutting down her page, Britney surprised fans by appearing to end her feud with sister Jamie Lynn and wishing her younger sibling a happy birthday.

She wrote: ‘Congratulations on being so brave, inspiring, and showing guts and glory in your show!!!

‘You ain’t alone… if anybody knows what that feels like… I get it. My baby sister!!! I love you!!! [sic]’.

The post came as a shock as Britney has publicly slammed Jamie Lynn in recent months in the aftermath of her conservatorship.
