The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has admitted the coronavirus lockdown was a blessing in disguise after her workload left her feeling burnt out.

The quiz whizz, known as The Governess on the series, spoke about how being forced into quarantine allowed her to rest, after becoming in-demand for a series of shows and projects.

Now back in business, working on The Chase, Beat The Chasers and hosting new show Britain’s Brightest Celebrity Family, Anne, 62, is feeling more positive going forward.

‘By the time lockdown came in, I was so burnt out, I’d had something like three colds in the space of five months because I was rushing around from place to place and suddenly having sobbing fits in the car,’ she told Daily Express.

‘There was just so much on my plate, there were so many things I was planning on.

‘I look now at my diary for the beginning of last year and I think, “Well, you kind of were about to have a breakdown.”’

Thankfully, she managed to avoid having a breakdown, and she added that she’d learned to appreciate her own space, sleep in her own bed, and take things at her own pace.

‘Whereas everyone else has suffered in lockdown, I’ve had a great time. I had money in the bank. And I knew there would be work to go back to,’ she said.

‘I really liked having tonnes of unfilled free time. Plus I love my own company. I love my solitude.’

Britain’s Brightest Celebrity Family airs Thursdays at 8pm on ITV.
