The widower of BBC presenter Rachael Bland has revealed that he is expecting twins with his new wife.

Steve Bland is set to become a father again, four years after Rachael’s death from cancer, with his second wife, Amy.

The 41-year-old met his advanced nurse practitioner spouse at a cancer conference in Manchester in 2019, a year after Rachael died aged just 40 with breast cancer.

She had fought a two-year battle with the disease before finding out in September 2018 that she had just days to live.

The BBC Radio 5 Live star left behind her young son Freddie, then aged three.

After meeting Amy the following year, the pair became engaged in December 2021 and tied the knot this past August.

Steve had been a co-host, replacing Rachael, on the popular You, Me and the Big C podcast alongside Lauren Mahon and Dame Deborah James, a.k.a ‘Bowel Babe’, who died of bowel cancer in June.

Announcing news of their impending arrivals, Amy shared a photo of herself and her blossoming baby bump next to the Christmas tree over the weekend, with step-son Freddie excitingly pointing at her stomach.

‘Team VB is getting not one, but two new recruits next year 😱,’ she wrote in the caption.

‘TWINS arriving in spring, all being well 👯‍♀️.’

Amy was also wearing a Christmas version of a jumper from Dame Deborah’s fundraising ‘Rebellious hope’ clothing line.

Friends and followers rushed to congratulate the couple in the comments.

‘Congratulations!!! Xxx,’ enthused I’m A Celebrity star Giovanna Fletcher, while Kate Ferdinand added: ‘The best news! ❤️❤️❤️❤️’

Steve opened up earlier this year on not feeling guilty about finding love after her death, revealing that Rachael had wanted him to find happiness again for his sake and the sake of their son.

‘It’s one of the most common questions I get asked: “Do I feel guilty?”’ he said on morning chat show Lorraine.

‘Why should I? I’m 40-years-old and I’ve got the rest of my life ahead of me. Rachael wanted me to be happy and wanted Freddie to be happy.’

He also said that society needed to ‘break down the taboo’ of finding love again after being widowed for people to’ stop worrying about being judged for it’.

Freddie acted as a best man at Steve and Amy’s wedding this summer, with this proud dad sharing about the ‘perfect’ day on social media.

He wrote: ‘What. A. Day. Our wedding day literally could not have been more perfect. All our favourite people in one place, so many smiles, so much laughter, loads of dancing and memories made, and a little too much kraken.
