He almost carried the UK to Eurovision victory back in May, but it appears Sam Ryder isn’t as impenetrable as he may seem.

The 33-year-old, who is on course to score a number one with his debut album this week, has been nursing a dislocated shoulder and broken toe during his current tour.

Space Man hitmaker Sam dislocated his shoulder at the weekend before going on to break his toe during a gig at the world-famous Cavern Club in Liverpool on Monday.

An insider told The Sun: ‘Sam is the definition of a trooper. At the weekend he dislocated his shoulder and since then it’s popped out twice.

‘He then ended up breaking his toe in Liverpool. Sam is completely in the wars. It hasn’t stopped him though, and so far he’s done eight gigs and ten signings with a broken toe and a bad shoulder.’

However, Sam is no stranger to his shoulder injury, previously revealing that he once dislocated it washing his long hair.

He told Free Radio in November: ‘I’ve dislocated my shoulder washing my hair once. Too much volume!

‘I was surfing and you know when you get out the sea, and there’s sometimes showers? Your hair gets really knotty after a surf and I was trying to wash it, like run my hands through it, it wasn’t very L’Oréal looking.

‘My thumb got sort of stuck in a knot and my shoulder dislocated. I have got a history of dislocating shoulders, it wasn’t just that but it happening washing your hair and the arm getting stuck in your hair is horrific.’

Sam soared to second place in the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year, being beaten only by Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra.

Due to ongoing conflict in the country, Ukraine is unable to host next year’s ceremony, with the duties being handed to the United Kingdom instead. After a bidding war, Liverpool was announced as the city that will host the contest next year.

Reigning winners Kalush Orchestra said that they are ‘very pleased that next year’s Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Liverpool.

‘Though we haven’t had the privilege of visiting yet, the musical heritage of the city is known all over the world,’ the band said.

‘Playing in the same place that The Beatles started out will be a moment we’ll never forget!

‘Although we are sad that next year’s competition cannot take place in our homeland, we know that the people of Liverpool will be warm hosts and the organisers will be able to add a real Ukrainian flavour to Eurovision 2023 in this city.’
