Carol Vorderman revealed that she has received a string of abuse after slamming Jeremy Clarkson’s vile comments about Meghan Markle.

The former Top Gear is at the centre of intense scrutiny from fellow celebrities including, Adil Ray, Dan Walker and even his own daughter for ‘disgusting’ comments about the Duchess of Sussex in The Sun in which he said he wishes to see people ‘throw lumps of excrement at her’.

Although the column has been removed at Clarkson’s request, Ipso recently announced it received over 17,500 complaints.

Responding to the hate-filled rant, the former Countdown presenter tweeted: ‘NO Jeremy Clarkson. Not on any level, in any circumstance, is it ok to write this stuff about any woman.

‘And absolutely NO to “everyone who’s my age thinks the same”. No no no.

‘We absolutely do NOT think the same. Listen to the noise Jeremy. The crowds are chanting “shame on YOU”.’

In her latest tweet, Vorderman shared that although she stands by what she said, she’s been subjected to hurtful comments online.

‘The Clarkson Effect,’ she penned.

‘I’ve received a lot of abuse obvs, but it’s like watching the last death throes of a dinosaur age. Sad souls who are angry at new thought, at equality, at kindness.

‘BUT this chapter has also brought the calm, normally silent, people together. We fight on.’

Clarkson spoke out amid the backlash on Monday but did not offer a direct apology for his words.

Instead, he wrote: ‘Oh dear. I’ve rather put my foot in it. In a column I wrote about Meghan, I made a clumsy reference to a scene in Game of Thrones and this has gone down badly with a great many people. I’m horrified to have caused so much hurt and I shall be more careful in future.’

Clarkson’s rant comes days after the final episodes of Harry and Meghan’s docu-series dropped.

The former Suits actress had been vocal about the British media wanting to ‘destroy her’ in the new documentary, while also claiming that ‘salacious’ stories had been ‘planted’ in the press.

‘At that point, I was still very much believing what I was being told, which was ‘it will pass, it will get better, it’s just what they do right at the very beginning,’ she said.

‘This promise of ‘once you’re married, don’t worry, it’ll get better, once they get used to you it’ll get better, of course it’ll get better.

‘But truth be told, no matter how hard I tried, no matter how good I was, no matter what I did, they were still going to find a way to destroy me.’
