The Deku Smash ability has been removed from Fortnite less than a week after the My Hero Academia collab launched.

My Hero Academia has become the latest anime series to lend its characters to Fortnite, following in the wake of Dragon Ball and Naruto crossovers.

Main characters Izuku Midoriya (or Deku), Katsuki Bakugo, and All Might have all become skins and are part of the My Hero Academia set, which also includes various cosmetics.

A special ability was also added to the game, allowing you to perform Deku’s signature Smash attack movement, but strangely it’s no longer available.

The official Fortnite Status account announced that the Deku Smash move has been removed from the game due to ‘an issue’ on December 21.

Why was Deku Smash removed from Fortnite?

The exact reason behind this decision hasn’t been revealed but many players have speculated that it’s because it’s too powerful.

By performing Deku’s Smash, you can eliminate opponents with full health and shields in one shot, and there’s no way for them to counter it.

i played 1 match of BR earlier, and this thing was one of the most overpowered items ive ever seen in this game

Dragon Ball’s Kamehameha move received similar complaints when it was first added to Fortnite, although it was never removed.

Other players don’t seem to believe that being overpowered is the reason that Deku’s Smash attack was removed from the game.

One person even posted a clip eliminating an enemy that was about to perform the special move to further help their claim.

Reports that Deku Smash might trigger an epileptic seizure in some players also started to circulate over the weekend.

In fact, a flashing lights warning was added to My Hero Academia’s creative mode, since the attack can be performed by multiple people at the same time.

When will Deku Smash be back in Fortnite?

Epic Games didn’t give an exact date for when the Deku Smash will be added back to Fortnite.

The My Hero Academia special event is set to run until Thursday, December 29, so hopefully Deku’s signature attack makes a comeback by then.

For now, you can try to complete some of the My Hero Academia challenges if you want to unlock some extra freebies.

Plus, you can take a sneak peek into week 2’s quests if you want to win XP to help you with Chapter 4’s first battle pass.
