Right as the TV drama portraying her court battle with Rebekah Vardy hit screens, Coleen Rooney was instead lapping up the delights of Lapland alongside husband Wayne and three of their sons.

The winter chill didn’t dissuade the family from visiting Santa, with the Rooney crew wrapping up in puffer coats and jumpers as they posed in the big man’s grotto.

With giant smiles plastered across their faces, Coleen, 36, and Wayne, 37, looked thrilled to be out with their three youngest sons, Klay, nine, Kit, six and Cass, four, with the kids each holding tight onto plush toy dogs.

Coleen wrote alongside the image: ‘Thank you @laplanduk for an amazing day as always 🎄.’

It’s not clear whether Coleen and Wayne’s eldest son Kai, 13, was also with his fam at Lapland, but he’s not been left out of the Christmas fun with his mum sharing a sweet picture of them ice skating at Winter Wonderland earlier in the week.

Coleen and Wayne’s family night out came right as the dramatised version of the equally dramatic courtroom saga we call came to know as Wagatha Christie hit screens on Wednesday night, with a blow-by-blow re-enactment of the libel trial titillating viewers at home.

The real-life drama began when Coleen accused Rebekah of leaking stories on her to the press, claiming she had set up a ‘sting operation’ by limiting access to her private Instagram Stories to only Rebekah’s account and posting fake stories to smoke her out.

Rebekah has always denied the claims and sued Coleen for libel, but lost the trial when it was ruled Coleen did not defame her.

The dramatisation, which has already also hit the stage, features all the major players, including footballer husbands Wayne and Jamie Vardy, as well as both women’s legal counsel, with the mini-series honing in on all the legal specifics.

Natalia Tena plays Rebekah, 40, while Chanel Cresswell will play Coleen, Dion Lloyd will take on the role of her husband, Wayne, Michael Sheen, a particularly gifted actor when it comes to playing real-life figures, takes on the role of David Sherborne, Coleen’s barrister and Simon Coury will be playing Rebekah’s barrister Hugh Tomlinson QC.

Ahead of the two-parter, the show was billed as ‘created from the real court transcripts, Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama will bring viewers all of the incredible and unbelievable moments from a case that kept the public and media gripped.’

Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama continues 9pm Thursday on Channel 4.
