‘I Would Love to Go Look the Winner in the Eyes’ – Colby Covington Plans Potential Face-Off With the Winner of UFC 261

UFC is ready to host its highly anticipated UFC 261 event at Jacksonville Arena, Florida. The card is stacked for top to bottom with three title fights. The main event will feature Kamaru Usman, the UFC Welterweight champion, versus Jorge Masvidal, in a grudge rematch. The UFC 261 is the first event after UFC 248, where fighters will battle in front of a full capacity crowd.

An estimated 15,000 fans will enter the building tomorrow to witness the spectacle. One guy who definitely promises to attend the event is former UFC Interim Welterweight Champion, Colby Covington. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Covington opens up about a potential face-off with the winner of the UFC 261 main event.

Colby Covington says, “I hope that Dana puts that together. I would love to go look the winner in the eyes and let them know I’m next, you know? And then the fans can see how cowardly they are when they go hiding and they go looking for a way out or retirement or ‘oh, I’m walking away from the sport’.

So I am hoping I get to look them in the eyes tomorrow night, but I don’t know will there be enough men in the building to hold me back to what I am gonna do to the winner tomorrow night.”

Colby Covington and his rivalry with Jorge Masvidal and Kamaru Usman

‘Chaos’ is a rival of both Usman and Masvidal. He has already faced ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ is a very competitive 5-round main event back in December 2019 at UFC 245. Kamaru Usman stopped him in the last minute of the last round. Since then, ‘Chaos’ has constantly demanded a rematch because he thinks now he is prepared to complete his task of becoming the undisputed UFC champion.

His beef with his ex-best friend Jorge Masvidal started back in 2019. Covington claims ‘Gamebred’ was jealous of his rapid rise in the Welterweight division, and this ultimately became a major factor for the contention between both Welterweights.

On the other side, ‘The BMF’ said they were friends before Covington failed to pay his coach, who helped him train for the Rafael dos Anjos fight. Since then, they have walked their separate ways.
