Edgar Berlanga Explains Why He Couldn’t Knockout Demond Nicholson – ‘I Know I Could Have Done a Lot Better’

Edgar Berlanga has preserved his undefeated streak with yet another victory. However, the American sensation lost his knockout streak after failing to finish his opponent in eight rounds. And Berlanga has now explained why he couldn’t knockout his compatriot.

‘The Chosen One’ faced Demond Nicholson on the undercard of the Emanuel Navarrete vs. Christopher Diaz event. After eight rounds of exciting boxing, Berlanga won a 79-68-79-68-79-68 unanimous decision victory.

After the fight, the 17-0 boxer revealed why he couldn’t knock him out. While rating his performance he said, “I felt like it was a C, you know. I know I could have done a lot better. There were things that I should’ve did. But, you know, we got the job done.”

This comment showed the regrets ‘The Chosen One’ had with his performance. He then explained why he did push-ups in the ring. “He was telling me to throw the jab and use body shots. But, Puerto Rico, te queiro mucho. And you know, I didn’t follow instructions so he had to give me push-ups.”

How did the Edgar Berlanga vs. Demond Nicholson fight pan out?

Nicholson came into the bout as the underdog and many expected Berlanga to steamroll him. However, the American put up a good account of himself. He was the first boxer to last past the first round against Berlanga.

The fight started slowly but came alive in the second when Berlanga got his first knock down. He then followed it up with constant pressure. However, Nicholson held on and showed his incredible determination.

However, the American could never get a hold of the fight and spent the eight rounds surviving the pressure from Berlanga. Berlanga almost got the knock out in the last 10 seconds. However, Nicholson got back up and the fight went to the judges.

Ultimately, after four knock downs and dominating the fight, Berlanga took home a deserved victory. Moreover, he got much needed experience going the distance for the first time in his career.
