Zurich Classic Format – Viktor Hovland Picks His Favorite Between Four-Ball and Alternate-Shot

The Zurich Classic 2021 is living up to the hype. Several teams are toiling hard at TPC Louisiana to challenge for the title. Norwegian duo Viktor Hovland and Kris Ventura are performing well this year, but the team prefers the ‘foursome’ format more than the ‘four-ball’ format, and here’s why:

For those who didn’t know, the Zurich Classic 2021 implements two different playing formats. The first and third rounds are played in the four-ball format, while the second and final rounds have the players adopting the foursome or alternate-shot format.

The foursome playing format seems to have struck a nice chord with Norwegian talent Viktor Hovland. The 23-year-old and his teammate climbed atop the leaderboard at the Zurich Classic after Round 2 but slipped down three places after the conclusion of Round 3 where they had played four-ball.

“I mean, I would just say play stress-free golf. Boring golf is good. We’ve been good off the tee this week, so it makes it a lot easier, and if you can just stay disciplined and not go for certain flags and make it easier for your partner, it makes it a lot easier. We’re both playing good, so it’s obviously a treat,” Hovland said about the alternate shot format.

Viktor Hovland is confident heading into the final round at Zurich Classic

Viktor Hovland and his partner Kris Ventura have been playing solid golf at TPC Louisiana. The course is not easy to master, but the Norwegian pair has been creating an impact with their presence.

Hovland and Ventura shot a 3-under 69 in Round 2 which propelled them atop the leaderboard. The pair, however, dropped places after the conclusion of the third round. As things stand, they’re just two strokes away from the leader and anything can happen in the final round at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans

“Yeah, for sure. I think especially for how good we’re hitting it off the tee, that really gives us a lot of confidence for tomorrow in the foursome. If we can just keep doing what we have been doing off the tee, we should be in pretty good spots to make easy pars and maybe pick up some birdies,” Hovland mentioned

Viktor Hovland has been in pretty good form of late, and he’s been pushing Ventura to perform up to the mark as well. The energetic duo stands fourth on the Zurich Classic leaderboard, but one can’t count them out as the final round will be played in the alternate shot format!
