“Will Not Be Playing at Madrid Open”: Bianca Andreescu Announces Disappointing News
The tennis career of the young Canadian sensation, Bianca Andreescu has been marred with injuries right from the start. After stunning the tennis world by defeating Serena Williams in the US Open 2019 finals, she has had a difficult time dealing with injuries.
Immediately after the US Open 2019, Andreescu had to withdraw from the WTA finals in October that year owing to a knee injury. The same injury kept her away from Tennis throughout 2020. However, she showed confidence en route her comeback in 2021.
Injuries taking a toll on the career of Bianca Andreescu
The Canadian returned back to professional tour at the Miami Open this year and straightaway managed to reach the finals. In the route to the final, Andreescu defeated some tough opponents like Maria Sakkari, Garbine Muguruza, and Amanda Anisimova. In the finals against Ashleigh Barty, she was down a set before trampling on-court.
Following that mishap, the Canadian was forced to retire from the match and hand over the title to the Australian. However, Andreescu confirmed her participation in the upcoming Madrid Open.

While Andreescu’s clay-court record is not that great, she was expected to give a tough fight to players like Simona Halep, Petra Kvitova, Aryna Sabalenka, etc.
But, the young Canadian tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in Madrid to play the coveted Masters tournament. She shared the news on her twitter account.

The Madrid Masters is yet another tournament in the long list that Bianca Andreescu has been forced to withdraw from. It is unfortunate to see a young talent falling prey to back-to-back injuries and misfortunes. Her firepower against the legendary Serena Williams brought her a lot of admirers. Let’s hope that she recovers for the French Open in Paris.
