Elton John fans got more than they bargained for when they attended the star’s concert in Australia this week.

Thousands flocked to the Aami Park in Melbourne on Friday to watch the acclaimed musician, 75, perform on his farewell tour.

The living legend is in the middle of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour as he prepares to retire and spend more time with his husband David Furnish, 60, and their sons Zachary, eight, and six-year-old Elijah.

Sir Elton is beloved by the public and critics alike – as proven at the Melbourne gig, when a famed music critic joined Elton on stage and dropped his pants in front of 30,000 people.

The Rocketman star invited critic Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum on stage by introducing him as ‘a national treasure,’ going on to thank him ‘for all the love and loyalty he’s shown me over the years.’

Molly then appeared on stage to rapturous applause, and the duo hugged and even shared a kiss – before Molly, 79, then dropped his pants and mooned the crowd.

Audiences got a good view of – well, everything – including the tattoo of a topless cowboy on Molly’s backside.

Snaps and videos of the bizarre moment naturally began making the rounds on social media, with one person who was set to see the musician that night joking they hoped Molly’s backside ‘stays fully clad.’

‘What a moment it was,’ another, who was at the show, said. They added: ‘Elt was marvellous with him.’

Acclaimed music critic Molly suffered a traumatic head injury in an accident in 2011 when he fell from a ladder, for which he had surgery and was placed under intensive care.

The writer recovered well from the series of injuries after multiple surgeries and time in a rehabilitation centre, and was able to return to work months later.

Sir Elton was one of the first people the critic interviewed following his recovery from the fall.

As well as Molly’s mooning antics, the old friends also duetted for Sir Elton’s track The B**** Is Back, which proved a massive hit with fans.

Sir Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour will be coming to Somerset as the musician was the first headlining act announced for Glastonbury 2023.

Incredibly, despite a glittering career spanning over 50 years, next year will be the first time the Tiny Dancer musician will ever have graced Worthy Farm – and he has promised it will be ‘incredibly emotional.’

He said: ‘As the end of my Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour comes into view, there is no more fitting way to say goodbye to my British fans.

‘They have been beyond brilliant, and have supported me through all the highs and lows of my career.

‘Every week I speak to new artists on my radio show and Glastonbury is often cited as a pivotal moment in launching their careers – the festival’s genuine, enthusiastic support for the best emerging talent is something I’ve long admired.’
