Chris Weidman Injury Update- Wife Shares Good News for Fans After UFC 261

Injuries are inevitable in combat sports. Especially in MMA where all four limbs are used, the chance of an injury increases. While there have been freaky injuries in the UFC they are usually few and far between. However, on Saturday at UFC 261 fans witnessed arguably one of if not the most gruesome injury in recent memory.

In a horrifically ironic incident, almost eight years on from his fight against Anderson Silva, Weidman lost the fight in the exact same way Anderson Silva did. An injury like this can keep an athlete out of action for the better part of a year. Fans and pundits alike will be hoping that ‘The all American’ makes a swift recovery and there are not significant lasting damages of the injury.

Will we see Chris Weidman in a UFC fight again?

Following his injury, Chris Weidman’s wife shared an update on the former middleweight champion of the world. “Well that was horrible. Freak things happen in life and plans get crushed. It’s been a lonnnggg day but so happy to finally see this man of mine post surgery. Everything went well thank you Lord! Very thankful for the medical staff, UFC family @danawhite @reedharrisufc #allieraimondo, our management team @vaynersports @sarahzemonek and our family and friends here rallying to help with the kids.”

She continued, “My heart breaks for my husband because I know the work and dedication that he puts into his training everyday and the great man that he is, so I only want the best for him. While this absolutely sucks in the moment and for some weeks to come, we are completely overwhelmed by the love and support we have far and wide and are very aware how blessed we are”

After sustaining a similar injury, Silva was out for the better part of a year. Although he did recover well enough to compete again, his record after the injury was abysmal whether that was due to age or the injury is up for debate.

For Chris Weidman, the details and severity of the injury are not known yet. However, at 36-years of age, a comeback from a potentially career-ending injury such as that is more difficult. Nonetheless, Weidman was always managed to bounce back strong after setbacks and this should not be any different. Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris Weidman, we wish him a speedy recovery.
