Oscars 2021: Zendaya praised by fans for keeping bright yellow mask on indoors
Zendaya was praised by her fans for opting to keep her mask on indoors during the socially distanced Oscars ceremony which took place on Sunday night during the coronavirus pandemic.
The ceremony was held across two venues: the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood and the Union Stadium in Los Angeles.
Trophies were handed out in person in front of a limited audience of 170 people who were rotated in and out of the event space throughout the evening, having taken at least three Covid-19 tests beforehand.
Guests were also not required to wear face masks when the cameras were rolling on the ceremony, but Zendaya, 24, appeared to opt to keep hers on throughout when she was seated.
However she did remove her mask outside to pose for red carpet pictures.
Viewers praised the Euphoria star, who matched her yellow face mask to her stunning, bright yellow Valentino gown she wore for the night, for playing it safe.
Watchmen star Regina King, who presented first at the Oscars, informed the audience about the mask protocol for the night.
She said they were treating the evening like a movie set, so the masks can come off when the camera is rolling, but go back on when the cameras aren’t filming.
Nomadland was the night’s big winner, picking up best film, best actress for Frances McDormand (her third Oscar overall) and best director for Chloe Zhao.
Zhao is only the second woman to win the directing category and the first woman of colour to win.
