It might have been over six years since his explosive entrance onto The Walking Dead, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan still hasn’t been forgiven by some for killing a fan favourite.

In 2016 the actor joined the sixth season of the post-apocalyptic zombie horror series, playing the sadistic leader of the Saviors, a group of survivors in the Sanctuary that oppressed other survivor communities and forced them to pay tribute to him.

It was in the premiere episode of season seven that his murderous tendencies became apparent after he bludgeoned Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn (Steven Yeun) to death with Lucille, his baseball bat covered in barbed wire that was also named after his dead wife.

The iconic moment caused outcry in the fandom, as Glenn’s eye literally popped out of its socket when Lucille hit him.

Now Jeffrey Dean, 56, has revealed many people haven’t been able to let go of what unfolded.

‘It changed my life. That one scene changed my life, literally, in so many ways. And I still get s*** for it,’ he said.

‘I live in New York and so I walk down those streets, and the people that are there remind me daily that Glenn was their favourite character,’ he added when speaking at a Television Critics Association panel as reported by Insider.

His character did countless other horrific things, but he later set out to redeem himself.

Appearing on the long-running series until it wrapped up with season 11 last year, the actor is starring in a spin-off alongside Glenn’s wife Lauren Cohan (Maggie), titled The Walking Dead: Dead City.

Set to be released in June, it will follow the pair into a ‘post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland’.

‘The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror,’ the official synopsis reads.

The Walking Dead is streaming on Disney Plus.
