Sir Elton John’s estranged half brother has been fined £120 for possession of magic mushrooms.

Geoff Dwight, 56, appeared at Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on Friday (January 20), where he pleaded guilty to having Class A drugs at his home in Ruthin, North Wales back in December 2021.

As well as the fine, he was also ordered to pay £119 in costs.

Arriving at court, Dwight carried a totem on his shoulder, which he said was a ‘religious’ item.

However, security guards would not allow him to bring it into the building, despite Dwight wanting to swear on it.

Upon leaving court, Dwight said the pole represented Sheba and Britannia, with quotes obtained by Mail Online reading: ‘Brexit happened so we are sailing the high seas of the world again. If I were having to swear an oath, I would have sworn on it.’

Of the charges against him, Prosecutor Justin Espie said the magic mushrooms were found at Dwight’s house during a search.

In response, Defence solicitor Nia Dawson said: ‘The most disturbing part is the time it’s taken for the matter to come to court, 13 months, it’s unacceptable.

‘A small amount of mushrooms were found in his premises.’

Dawson added that Dwight had ‘forgotten’ the mushrooms were there, as he knows they are ‘against the law.’

The self-employed half-sibling of the Your Song singer has had run-ins with the law in the past.

In 2021, he and his partner Karen Webb, 58, were accused of helping to organise an illegal rave amid pandemic restrictions.

The charges were later reduced though, with the pair fined £200 for breaching Covid rules by attending the gathering with 200 others in the Welsh countryside.

However, Dwight claimed that the August event was a private, spiritual gathering that he had attended many times in the past.

As for his relationship with Sir Elton, it is strained to say the least.

Dwight – who has a 20-year age difference with Sir Elton, 75 – hit out at the award-winning star in 2019, claiming he had demonised their father in his autobiography.

Sir Elton previously wrote that he was ‘scared’ of Stanley Dwight, penning: ;I don’t recall him ever coming to see me play live, or talking about music with him.

‘What I was doing clearly wasn’t really his thing.’

In response, Dwight said: ‘I don’t understand because my mum, my dad and me, we all went to see him as his guests in Liverpool.

‘That was definitely a concert, my dad was definitely there, he was definitely playing and we definitely watched it. I was five.

‘Either he has got massive memory loss and he genuinely thinks his dad hasn’t seen him in concert or maybe he wants to believe that.’

Pop veteran Sir Elton grew distant from his father over the years too, with Stanley refusing the star’s help when he was dying.

He wrote in his book: ‘My father had a heart problem and needed a quadruple bypass. I phoned and offered to pay for him to have the operation done privately. He flatly refused. It was a shame… but he didn’t want my help.’

Shutting down the singer’s claims, Dwight said: ‘Dad was getting treated by the NHS and Elton offered him private treatment. But the NHS group knew my dad, they knew his conditions, what are you going to do? Just spend money on a private guy who he didn’t know?

‘There are some things money can’t buy. There was no agenda or malice from my dad, he was like, “Life isn’t just about me, there are other people involved as well”.’

Dwight accused his half brother of ‘playing the blame card.’

However, the musician’s spokesperson later said that he ‘stands by what he said in the book.’
