This week’s episode of The Apprentice saw the remaining candidates take part in one of the series’ most iconic challenges, when the teams were tasked with sourcing a list of items for the least amount of money.

Having travelled to Brighton for week 4, the participants wandered from shop to shop trying to find all of the required objects, from a trug basket to a nautical barometer.

Purchasing all of the items on the list wasn’t the only obstacle they faced, as they also had to ensure that they did it in the time limit and made sure that the objects were accurate to the specifications they’d been provided with.

In the end, project manager Denisha Kaur Bharj was fired by Lord Alan Sugar after her team lost, and she spoke to Metro.co.uk about what it was like taking part in the manic task, before coming face to face with the business magnate in the boardroom.

‘Nobody wants to go, we’re all there for the investment. There is a lot of hard work that goes into just prepping and going onto the process,’ she said.

Referencing fellow candidates Mark Moseley and Reece Donnelly, who she brought back into the boardroom with her as the trio individuals at risk of being eliminated, she added: ‘Mark and Reece are really lovely, and I know they just worked really hard on the task as much as it didn’t go well. I didn’t really want to see them go home either.’

While her team lost, one of the reasons being that they incurred a fine, there was a moment when Karren Brady and Tim Campbell were revealing the results that Denisha thought there was a possibility that her team had snagged the win.

Her team bought the wig that was on the list for a far cheaper price than the opposing team… but it wasn’t quite enough to secure the victory.

‘The whole day was crazy. We were really working so hard to try and get all the items on the list. I think the negotiation I did with the wigs, at that point when Lord Sugar did announce what the other team had paid for their wigs, I was like, “Ooh, maybe we’ve got this,”’ she recalled.

‘It was a good day, apart from running up and down Brighton Pier. I wasn’t expecting that.’

When asked whether she thought at that moment that maybe her team had won, the businesswoman added: ‘Yeah, because it was a really big difference with what the other team had paid.

‘But obviously where they had obviously managed to get all the items, we hadn’t got all the items and I think one of them was incorrect, we got a fine.’

While Denisha was disappointed to leave at that point in the process, she was grateful that Lord Sugar ‘saw the person I am’, and that Karren praised her negotiating skills in the boardroom for everyone to hear.

‘I definitely think when Karen saw me negotiating, that was really good because she actually highlighted that too in the boardroom to Lord Sugar. So that was really nice, being able to showcase the negotiation I did,’ she said. ‘I think I definitely showcased myself throughout the whole process.’

As for what Denisha has planned in the near future, the entrepreneur is going to be launching a new product, her lash shampoo, as well as preparing to welcome a baby to the family.

‘I’m going to be launching my new product, the lash shampoo, for lash extensions and strip lashes. I’m hoping to get into Boots and Superdrug, into the big high street stores as well,’ she explained.

‘While I’m building that I’m actually expecting as well, so we’re building a family as well. So there’s a lot, it’s been a crazy year. When I left the process and they asked me how I felt at that point, I was saying to them everything happens for a reason. So you do your best and you can only hope to get so far.’

Ahead of the birth of her first baby, Denisha has been trying to work with her suppliers to get all of her orders in, while juggling looking at all of the baby products she needs at the same time.

‘I’m like looking at baby stuff and what do you get and what nappies are these… it’s been a lot of things. We were looking at buggies yesterday. Oh my god, the amount of buggies there are… it’s ridiculous!’ she shared.

The Apprentice returns next Thursday at 9pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
