Snoop Dogg breaks down in tears with Kelly Clarkson on The Voice US over emotional near-death story
Snoop Dogg broke down in tears after getting more than he bargained for as The Voice US’s Mega Mentor.
The 49-year-old music icon struggled to control his emotions during the latest Battle Rounds, with two young performers tugging at his heartstrings.
Anna Grace and Gihanna Zoë, both being mentored by Kelly Clarkson, brought the house down with their head-to-head, with Kelly also choking back tears during their emotional routines.
Gihanna performed Pink’s Glitter in the Air and Anna Grace sang If I Die Young by the Band Perry, with both being told by Kelly to ‘emote’ more.
In order to do this, Anna, 20, spoke out about nearly dying three years ago, with photos revealing she was inches away from death in a hospital bed.
She explained: ‘When I was 17, I got really sick with a bunch of infections and nearly lost my life because of that.
‘Music is what got me through this. If I Die Young – that was almost me. The line that hits me the most is “Lord, make me a rainbow, I’ll shine down on my mother” because my mom and I are so close.
‘I was worried what would happen to her if something happened to me. That’s still my biggest fear everyday. She’s my biggest supporter.’
Gihanna quickly followed suit with her own emotional performance, leaving rapper Snoop declaring: ‘Y’all didn’t tell me I was going to be crying on this show.’
While Gihanna eventually won the battle round, Blake Shelton gave Anna another chance at the competition by stealing her for his own team.
‘I stole Anna because I think she’s got an open lane on my team,’ he said.
‘This is hardcore competition. These are world-class vocalists – and I happen to think that you’re one of them.’
She now goes through to the Live Playoff shows, against the remaining competitors in Kelly, Nick Jonas and John Legend’s teams.
The Voice continues on NBC in the US.
