Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will return to the spotlight next month to take part in a concert calling for equality with the coronavirus vaccine alongside Jennifer Lopez and Selena Gomez.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their last official public appearance during their controversial Oprah Winfrey interview in March.

However, they’re now confirmed to appear at Global Citizen’s Vax Live:  The Concert to Reunite the World on May 8.

In a statement on their website, Meghan and Harry said: ‘Over the past year, our world has experienced pain, loss, and struggle—together. Now we need to recover and heal—together. We can’t leave anybody behind.

‘We will all benefit, we will all be safer, when everyone, everywhere has equal access to the vaccine.

‘We must pursue equitable vaccine distribution, and in that, restore faith in our common humanity. This mission couldn’t be more critical or important.’

The pair are serving as Campaign Chairs of the event and are expected to deliver a global message calling for vaccine equity, helping to ensure everyone has equal access to the vaccine.

They will also lead a drive across the private sector to raise funds for the vaccine-sharing program Covax.

Selena Gomez is confirmed to host at the event and said: ‘I’m honored to be hosting Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World.

‘This is a historic moment to encourage people around the world to take the COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available to them, call on world leaders to share vaccine doses equitably and to bring people together for a night of music in a way that hasn’t felt possible in the past year.

‘I can’t wait to be a part of it.’

Other performers include J.Lo, H.E.R., the Foo Fighters, Eddie Vedder and J Balvin.

Vax Live will call on philanthropists and corporations to donate enough ‘dollars for doses’ to help vaccinate more than 27million health workers working on the frontlines.

Harry and Meghan have been at the centre of a Royal storm following their explosive interview with Oprah. During the two-hour long chat, the couple accused the Royal family of making racist comments about their son Archie before he was born, while detailing how the racial abuse impacted Meghan.

Harry has returned to the UK earlier this month to attend the funeral of his grandfather, Prince Philip, before flying back to reunite with Meghan, who is pregnant with their second child, in California where they now live.

Vax Live airs on ABC, ABC News Live, CBS, iHeartMedia, and on the Global Citizen channel on YouTube at 8pm ET (1am in the UK).
