I’m a fashion expert – what your winter boots say about you and it’s bad news for Ugg lovers

WITH cold temperatures showing signs of going nowhere, we’ll be wearing boots for the foreseeable future.

During the winter months fashion lovers get giddy about the thought of choosing a new winter coat and a new pair of winter boots.

It’s one of the few joys that comes with colder and shorter days.

But your footwear of choice can reveal a lot about you, and that’s not always a good thing.

Whether you’re a do-everything in a high heel person or you rely on a durable flat, here Fabulous’ Fashion Editor Clemmie Fieldsend reveals what your choice of winter boot says about you.

UGG – LAZY

While you may be a busy mum juggling breakfast, getting ready and the school run – reaching for the Uggs to run out of the door is the easiest and comfiest option but it shows that you haven’t had a chance to care about what you look like, or more likely have enough time.

Uggs have gone from noughties essentials to the butt of style jokes and are now cool again with the likes of supermodels Bella Hadid, Irina Shayk and Hailey Bieber.

But unless you’re wearing them like these three ladies, aka not with your work trousers shoved in the ankles with worn down heels, then avoid.

HEELED ANKLE – WANNABE COOL MUM

GettyHeeled ankle boots scream that you’re a mum trying to be stylish.[/caption]

A heeled ankle boot is a staple of most wardrobes, and it’s as reliable as jeans-and-a-nice-top for when you don’t know what to wear, but sadly they haven’t been a catwalk lead trend for a fair few years, so that means you’re living in the past.

And hey, who can blame you for wanting to stay in the golden years?

So, if you’re clinging on to a sensible heeded ankle boot it’s showing that you’re a ‘cool’ mum, and by that I mean you’re not up to date with your style but you are trying look nice regardless.

OVER THE KNEE – COMMON

RedditAbandon over the knee boots to prevent yourself from looking common.[/caption]

Slipping on an over the knee boot may make you look and feel sexy, but to onlookers it makes you look common.

We’ve all seen those memes of the girls with faux-fur gillets, fedoras and over the knee boots – with more than likely a pumpkin spiced latte in hand -and if that’s your look then unfortunately your outfits have become a bit of a joke.

Swap your secondskin over-the-knee boots for a knee-high wide-leg for a more current look.

FAUX FUR – CHAV

Soggy, dirty and drenched aren’t three words you’d associate with someone who has great style, and that’s what you should ditch your faux-fur boots.

Yes they’re warm and cosy but they scream that you have no fashion sense.

Think eighties skiing outfits or Snooki from Jersey Shore, neither conjure images of current or even timeless, chic looks so should be left collecting dust at the back of your wardrobe.

If you’re looking for a toasty shoe you can still have faux fur linings, as long as they don’t show, or shoes with specialist thermal technology.

They’re available at high street favourites like M&S and won’t cost you a fortune.
