A national ballot will be held to decide who gets their hands on the 10,000 free tickets available for King Charles III’s coronation concert at Windsor Castle.

The announcement for the ballot was made by the BBC, ahead of the concert which will take place on May 7, one day after the King’s coronation on May 6.

There will then be a one-off Bank Holiday on May 8 to conclude the celebrations, which are expected to begin up to a full a week earlier.

The concert, which will take place on the castle’s huge eastern lawn, will feature ‘world-class orchestras, musical favourites, and fantastic entertainers’.

In addition, performs from the worlds of dance, art, and acting will take to the stage for a variety performance, backed up by ‘staging and effects’.

Full line-up details are yet to be confirmed.

The ballot for tickets will be open from 7.00am, February 10 through to 11.59pm, February 28 and, according to the BBC, will NOT run on a first-come first-serve basis.

A statement reads: ‘There is as much chance of being selected if an application is made on the February 10 as on February 28.’

It is also clarified that the ballot will ‘reflect fairly the population spread across the UK’, and that living in certain areas of the country will NOT improve or decrease your chances.

How can I get tickets?

As for how to get a ticket, from February 10, members of the public can apply online by visiting a dedicated page on the BBC’s website.

The 10,000 tickets will be distributed in 5,000 pairs. If a person is successful in the ballot, they will be able to nominate one guest to join them.

The tickets will be standing, not seated, and attendees have been reminded that a ticket does not grant them access into Windsor Castle itself.

Is the concert on TV?

The coronation concert will be covered extensively by the BBC across TV, radio, and mobile phone apps, with BBC One, BBC Radio, and BBC Sounds all broadcasting from the event.

There’s no word yet on when coverage will begin, but it is expected to last throughout the day.
