Rappers Young Thug and Gunna bail out 30 people arrested for low-level crimes
Rappers Gunna and Young Thugs have posted bail for 30 inmates who were arrested for low-level crimes.
The duo helped to free people unable to afford the cost themselves from Fulton County Jail in their native Atlanta, Georgia on Sunday.
Speaking to WSB-TV2, Young Thug – real name Jeffery Lamar Williams – explained: ‘This is where we are from. We just woke up and went to the jail with the lawyer, DAs, and the prosecutors and, you know, the bonding company and just got as many people as we can out.’
Gunna – real name Sergio Giavanni Kitchens – added: ‘You never know what somebody’s been through. There was people sitting out three or four years and couldn’t get out on a bond.
Young Thug then explained: ‘If they did the crime, then they can do the time, then it’s all right. But it’s like, you’re giving them a bond higher than what they stole.’
According to WSB-TV, the Fulton County Jail is incredibly overcrowded with 2,900 individuals imprisoned there – which is 400 more individuals than its capacity.
Young Thug told the station that ‘it feels so good to the point where you start feeling that’s why God put me here. He put me here to do this.’
The duo also stated that this isn’t a one-time situation as they made it clear they hope to continue the initiative going forward.
The Ski hitmakers have also urged their peers withing the music industry to do the same.
According reports, Young Thug’s record label Young Stoner Life Records shot footage of the moment the inmates were released and rejoined their family.
It’s believe the emotional scenes will feature in a forthcoming music video.
