I’m a fashion expert – the trends I WON’T be buying into this year despite what influencers say

CONTENT creators are turning their backs on traditional influencer culture to help save their viewers money – including fashion expert Tashira Halyard.

The trend is called “deinfluencing”, with people giving advice on what viral products being heavily promoted on social media aren’t worth the hype.

Influencers are telling shoppers what not to buy or what to spend their money on instead.

Fashionista Tashira took to her YouTube account Politics & Fashion to weigh in on the trend through an “anti-haul”.

She advised her followers that they don’t need to buy into every new fashion fad or have a “luxury wishlist” of things to blow money on.

She said: “Let’s normalise anti-consumption.

“Let’s resist that spirit of mass consumption.”

Among the items in Tashira’s “anti-haul” were designer jewellery, Nike trainers, outfits for special occasions, neutral handbags, notebooks, journals and trendy makeup products.

Commenting on jewellery, she said: “You never know what you’re going to get from some of these retailers.

“You could be paying luxury prices for things that fade.

“I just think that if I want jewellery… I’ll put that money either towards independent designers or put that money towards real 14 to 24 carat gold.”

The specific Nike trainers she highlighted were Nike Jordan 1s.

The basketball shoes saw a huge surge in popularity following Netflix’s hit series The Last Dance, which focused on sporting icon Michael Jordan’s reign at the Chicago Bulls.

Secondary market sites like StockX noted a huge increase in popularity, with interest in Michael Jordan collectibles at an all time high.

These made Tashira’s list because said she already has three pairs and doesn’t think it’s necessary to create a collection of the same trainers in hundreds of different colours.

The content creator applied the same sentiment to clothes for special occasions.

She vowed to not buy a new outfit for events like her birthday, Christmas and date nights.

On purchasing new handbags, she commented: “I have two everyday bags that really check every single box.”

Most of us are guilty for stocking up on pretty notebooks and journals, especially when the new year rolls around.

Tashira revealed that she won’t be spending money in stationery shops this year after realising that she already has around 25 journals.

She laughed: “I think I’m going to save at least $5,000 dollars and I’m looking forward to it.”

Finally, the content creator revealed she has a “no-buy” rule in place for makeup this year.

Tashira explained: “Unless it is something that I am specifically refilling – so if I am out of a bronzer or a primer or a foundation – then clearly I plan to replace those things.

“But going out and just balling at Sephora because it’s a Tuesday and I’m bored… we’re not doing it.”

She added that she has around 25 lipsticks but only wears three.
