Love Island star Demi Jones is recovering in hospital after having a potentially cancerous lump removed from her neck.

The 22-year-old, who appeared in the winter series of the ITV2 dating show in 2020, updated her social media followers after undergoing the procedure on Wednesday.

Earlier this month, Demi revealed the results of tests she had on the lump and was told it ‘could be cancerous’ and would need to be operated on.

In her Instagram stories, Demi took a selfie from her hospital bed showing a slight smile and giving a thumbs up.

‘I did it. Very sleepy and painful; catch up soon,’ she said.

Revealing a close-up of the bloodied bandage on her neck, the reality star later explained: ‘Face and neck are swollen but surgery went really well, the lump on my Thyroid was as big as a golf ball.

‘The NHS Staff at QA Portsmouth have been unbelievable! And thank you for all your messages they have made me tearful.’

Demi then said she would be taking a ‘little break from posting on social media’ but added that she hoped her health scare ‘raises awareness to check your lumps’.

Just two weeks ago, Demi explained to her followers what the doctors had advised after testing the lump.

‘I went to go get the results today for my lump and they think it could be cancerous. I’ve got to go have it operated and removed,’ she said in a video.

‘I’m worried, but I’m sure it will be fine. It’s just a shock because you just don’t think. I was sat there in the waiting room and it was full of old people and I was the only young one there.

‘I know loads of women go through this so I’ll be fine. It might not even be cancerous.’

She added: ‘They’ve got to cut it out to be sure. I’m just a bit shocked at the moment. I’ll be ok, I’ll get it removed and I should be fine.’

Urging her fans to regularly check their bodies for any changes that may be concerning, Demi continued: ‘Please don’t put off getting lumps checked. If appointments keep getting cancelled then you need to chase it up.

‘‘I was supposed to have this appointment six months ago. At my scan they said “everything looks fine” and went to send me on my way.

‘I challenged it and asked if they could do more, in which they said “oh well we can test the fluid if you want us to?”

‘Thank god I asked as it was the fluid that came back potentially cancerous. Always push!’

Demi rose to fame in the 2020 winter series of Love Island and kept viewers engaged with her romance with Luke Mabbott. However, their relationship didn’t last and they split shortly after the series ended
