Mutua Madrid Open 2021 Seeds: Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev, Ashleigh Barty, and Naomi Osaka Lead the Draw

Top men and women tennis players have reached the Spanish capital for the Mutua Madrid Open 2021. Although defending champion Novak Djokovic will miss the tournament, fan-favorite and five-time winner Rafael Nadal will have everyone’s attention.

The main draw matches of the ATP Masters 1000 Madrid will run from May 2 and conclude on May 9. Similarly, the WTA 1000 event will begin on April 29 and run until May 8.

The men’s tournament has a 56 players field, whereas the women’s tournament has 64 players. Both of them will have 16 seeded players in the main draw each.

The top seeds in Mutua Madrid Open 2021 men’s tournament

The 20-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal will headline the tournament on home turf. Following him, Russian Daniil Medvedev will stand as the second seed in Madrid.

Since the reigning US Open champion Dominic Thiem is also one of the absentees, Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas will be seeded third. The 22-year-old currently has a 9-1 record on the clay so far.

After the Monte-Carlo champion, German Alexander Zverev and Russian Andrey Rublev are fourth and fifth seeds in Madrid. Interestingly, they both have won an ATP 500 title already in 2021.

Argentine Diego Schwartzman and Italian Matteo Berrettini make the last two places in the Top 8 seeds of the tournament. Even these two have bagged an ATP 250 title this year. The Top 8 seeds will receive a bye into the second round.

The ninth and tenth seeds in Madrid are Spaniards Roberto Bautista Agut and Pablo Carreno Busta. Subsequently, Belgium David Goffin and Canadian Denis Shapovalov will become the 11th and 12th seeds.

As per the entry list, Frenchman Gael Monfils, Polish Hubert Hurkacz, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, and Italian Jannik Sinner are the last four seeds at the Mutua Madrid Open 2021.

Apart from the seeds, some players to watch out for are Stan Wawrinka, Milos Raonic, Fabio Fognini, and Aslan Karatsev. From the under 21 category, Felix Auger-Aliassime and Carlos Alcaraz will also give their best shot.

The Top seeds in the WTA 1000 Madrid Open

In the women’s tournament, all Top 40 ranked players will play the Madrid Open except 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams. Australian World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty and Japanese World No. 2 Naomi Osaka are the headliners for this year’s event.

Two-time winner and defending finalist Simona Halep is the third seed in the Spanish capital. Ukrainian Elina Svitolina and Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka take the next two spots after Halep.

Following them, the former World No. 1 Karolina Pliskova is seeded sixth. Additionally, the defending champion Kiki Bertens is seventh, whereas Swiss star Belinda Bencic is the eighth seed.

The other eight seeds are as follows: Petra Kvitova, Garbine Muguruza, Jennifer Brady, Victoria Azarenka, Elise Mertens, Iga Swiatek, Johanna Konta, and Maria Sakkari. Indeed, the women’s main draw is brimming with talent and promises to deliver high-quality tennis for the next two weeks.

All in all, both the men and women are ready for yet another 1000 points event.
