Taron Egerton reflected most Bafta fans’ opinions when he got side-tracked during a red carpet interview by Florence Pugh making a stunning entrance.
The Rocketman actor was attending the 2023 edition of the annual awards ceremony as the presenter for the leading actress category, which he later presented to Cate Blanchett for her turn in music drama Tár.
As a non-competitive attendee, the 33-year-old was able to relax a little ahead of the event’s kick off, revealing he wouldn’t feel nervous until ‘just before’ his turn to take to the stage.
However, during a handful of quick chats he did do with press, the Kingsman actor was distracted while chatting about the particularly star-studded guest list by one Florence Pugh.
Florence was attending the Baftas in support of her film The Wonder, which was up for outstanding British film – which ultimately lost out to The Banshees of Inisherin.
Chatting about how the awards crowd was back in full force since the pandemic, Taron began: ‘Well the world’s sort of been a bit shaken, hasn’t, it for a couple of years, but I think this year it feels like we’re sort of getting back.

‘It feels slightly like everyone’s sort of forgotten about it, doesn’t it?’
Just ahead of spotting the 27-year-old, he continued to HeyUGuys: ‘But it does feel like there’s some semblance of – wow, Florence Pugh looks good! – it does feel like there’s some semblance of normality now.’

The actor’s off-the-cuff reaction to Florence, who looked exquisite in a frilled bright orange Nina Ricci tulle gown, and was debuting a new micro-fringe, had fans creasing up online.
‘Taron Egerton getting distracted by how good Florence Pugh looks is too funny, he’s just like us,’ tweeted one person, with another jokingly responding: ‘That’s just a normal reaction to seeing Florence Pugh.’
Another lamented: ‘Paul Mescal, Austin Butler, Taron Egerton and Florence Pugh in the same room without me tonight.’
The 2023 Baftas provided some serious glamour from its sharply turned out creatives in attendance, but the all-white winners’ list sparked backlash and a resurgence in the use of the ‘BaftasSoWhite’ hashtag.

Florence, who split from her 47-year-old boyfriend Zach Braff last year after they first started dating in 2019, appeared to confirm her romance with new beau Charlie Gooch.
The pair were spotted holding hands and hugging during a stroll through London.
