Loose Women panelist Jane Moore made a dig at Boris Johnson’s fiancée Carrie Symonds over the controversial refurbishment of their Downing Street flat.
This week, it was announced that the renovation of Mr Johnson’s Downing Street property is to be formally investigated, with the Electoral Commission stating: ‘The investigation will determine whether any transactions relating to the works at 11 Downing Street fall within the regime regulated by the Commission and whether such funding was reported as required.’
It’s been claimed that the prime minister told aides that the cost of the revamp was ‘totally out of control’, while it’s believed that Carrie hired an upmarket interior eco designer called Lulu Lytle, whose Soane Britain company sells ‘Yellow Gold’ and ‘Old Gold’ wallpaper.
During a heated exchange in the Commons, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer taunted Mr Johnson about the makeover, stating: ‘This is a Prime Minister who during the pandemic was nipping out of meetings to choose wallpaper at £840 a roll’ – a supposed cost that Jane referred to on Loose Women in reference to Carrie.
While chatting with fellow Loose Women presenters Charlene White, Nadia Sawalha and Denise Welch, the panel discussed Tony Blair’s newly-revealed mullet.
The conversation then turned to Mr Johnson’s hair, with Denise stating: ‘Surely his girlfriend can do a little bit of a blowdry, do you know what I mean?’
‘Well she’s too busy choosing £840 wallpaper,’ Jane responded in a cutting remark.
The camera then turned to Denise, who appeared to look awkward as she drank from her mug.
When asked by Nadia whether that’s really how much the wallpaper cost, Jane added: ‘Apparently. So the interior designer that she’s used, or they’ve used should I say, £840 a roll.’
Jane then brought up the ‘other rumoured items’ claimed to have been purchased by the couple, including a ‘£9,800 Baby Bear sofa’ and a ‘£3,000 Lily Drum table’.
However, Nadia veered away from the subject of the refurbishment, changing the subject by talking about how she has been thinking more about using wallpaper as of late.
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
